Will try and listen to Desert Island Discs.

I thought Robert Preston was that business correspondent who's often on the news. Is he branching out into new areas?! _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

Lerner and Loewe in a live show from the Mermaid Theatre tonight. Listening as I'm doing some emails and it's good. Mainly My Fair Lady and Camelot so far.

I'm enjoying it too, Helen. One of the male singers has a lovely voice but I'm not sure which one. He sang On The Street Where You Live near the start. |

Last night's programme was sheer delight celebrating the 70th anniversary of the start of the Light Programme. The first number the orchestra launched into was the sig tune for Housewives Choice which I absolutely love and which set the tone for the whole programme.
It is definitely worth iPlaying. |

I've just checked the playlist Eileen and it does sound good, a few were on the John Wilson Classic FM concert.

Friday's 500 Words special was an absolute cracker. A really fabulous selection of music, so much fun and uplifting. |

A very enjoyable FNIMN last night featuring a spellbinding performance of Vaughan William's The Lark Ascending and some nice strumming from Hungry's Katona Twins.

Listening now to a programme devoted to music loved by David Jacobs (I still miss him). It is being presented by his daughter Emma. Lovely so far with music from La Cage Aux Folles, High Society, The Music Man etc.
Waiting for the inevitable but always wonderful Mack & Mabel. |

I've been listening to bits of it Eileen and will listen back in full another time and have enjoyed it. I meant to post when I saw it advertised but forgot.
It would have been David's 90th birthday and it will be Desmond Carrington's 90th on Monday!

I recorded one of Desmond's programmes a few years ago which itself was a repeat of one which he and David had presented jointly for their (I think) 65th birthdays.
Ah, here comes Mack & Mabel! I saw Michael Ball as Mack at Chichester last year. It was a fantastic performance. |

That sounds familiar to me Eileen, I must have heard the repeat of it.
Looking forward to hearing it properly!

Eileen I listened to the whole concert yesterday afternoon while sewing and really enjoyed it. David's daughter Emma was very good too.

The only thing which brought me up short was the mention of perhaps some of the audience remembering David playing Jet Morgan in Journey Into Space.
He did for a one-off more recent radio play but the main point about David and JIS was that in the original productions he played all the characters, numbering over 20, who were not the main four crew members. I don't think that was mentioned.
His daughter must have known that surely as it is such a well-known fact. |

I didn't know about JIS but have heard about it, but as you say his daughter should have known.

I listened to the original broadcasts as a child and queued up at a Radio Show in London to get David's autograph. Still got it |

I am very much enjoying tonight's programme presented by Joe Stilgoe with songs by him, Louise Marshall and the BBC Big Band. All the music relates to three guys by the name of Louis, i.e. Armstrong, Prima and Jordan.
A great swinging session from the Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith. |

There was a very good edition on Friday 11 August. It was a Gershwin programme throughout and for a change all the four singers were superb. |

Last night's was just great! It was all Harry Warren's music and the orchestra and singers did full justice to it. I rather wish I had taped it. |

Thanks for the reminder of that Eileen. I read or maybe heard a trailer for it earlier in the week.
Regarding the recording are you able to run a lead from your computer to your recorder? If so you could listen again and record the programme.
Are you still using cassettes?

Nothing wrong with cassettes Eileen. I've a huge box of them including about 100 from my Dad yet to play. No idea what is on a lot of them but it's sometimes a nice surprise! _________________ 88 - 91 FM this is Radio 2 from the BBC!
