This new series starts tomorrow (Mon 8th June) at 10pm.
I first heard about this a few months ago but couldn't find anything about it until I heard several trailers during the past week so I hope that it lives up to them!
I was born at the start of the decade and music was very prevalent in our house as Dad had a small dance band at the time, so a lot of the music sort of became engrained in me!

I'm looking forward to this, Helen. He was the guest on Clare Teal's show last Sunday. I was 8 in 1950 and already absorbing popular music of all types as the radio was on constantly in our house. Some non-rock items will go down well with me! |

Does anyone remember the previous Sounds Of The 50s that was presented by Ronnie Hilton? I remember hearing it on a Saturday afternoon in the early-mid 1990s. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

I can vaguely remember it LEE, not sure if I listened or just heard trails for it though.

Very much enjoyed the first programme in this series. Leo has a very easy going manner that is nice to listen to plus, despite his age, he appears to have a great knowledge (and love) of this era of music.
He has made some great choices in his top ten of the fifties...
His verdict on the No 6 on his list...Tutti Frutti by Little Richard "I remember the first time I heard this record as a 12-year-old – this is one of the most exciting sounds known to man!"
No arguing with that!
LEE...I have seen mention of Ronnie Hilton's programme elsewhere but I don't remember it. |

I'm just hanging on waiting for the next new show 'Sounds Of The Nineteenth Century' on Radio 2
I just love a spot of Elgar Delius and the like
As for Sounds Of The Fifties - I think I'll give it a miss _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

I'm very belatedly catching up with this just now and enjoying the first episode! I heard some of the 2nd as it went out live. Wish it was on at 11pm as I'd catch it live most weeks then!
Like you Becky I like his broadcasting style.

It has been a good mix of music so far and I too like his presenting style which is very reminiscent of his dad! |

I keep forgetting to listen to this which is a shame as I know that I'd like it.
I was born in 67 but I've always had a soft spot for older music.
Glad you are all enjoying it (apart from Ruddlescat) |

We have talked of covers on another thread. Leo played the original version of Dedicated To The One I Love, by The "5" Royales, on his last programme. I'd forgotten that The Shirelles had also recorded it but for my money you can't beat the version by The Mamas and the Papas. |

Sorry that these programmes have come to an end. I caught up with the last one the other day and again there were some wonderful songs including Stardust and When I Fall In Love.
Leo said there were no plans for any more programmes but did say there would be a Christmas special so hopefully that might mean that 'they' are thinking of doing another series. |

Listening to Leo just now I find out that Frank Sinatra said on one occasion that he would like to be Mayor of Blackpool.
The Music Played is a bit all over the place...they've missed out the first records played. |

Just been listening to Leo's Christmas special and he played some of my favorites from that decade!
Christmas Alphabet by Dickie Valentine come near the top of the list!

He was a heart throb of my eldest sister. She went to see him once and he threw a handkerchief,he been wiping the perspiration from his brow with, into the audience and she caught it. Nearly fainted I think. It had stage make up on it, I remember.
Hopefully will catch up with this programme before it disappears |

What a great anecdote, Becky!
It's a pity that Leo's show was only temporary. His knowledge and little stories, as well as his choices of music, were a great listen. They should have given Tony B his old POTP programme back and let Leo have Friday evenings. Gambo isn't suited at all, to the Saturday POTP. _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |

Connie Francis will be 80 on 12 December 2018. Leo Green looks back at the singer's amazing life and career.
Really enjoyed Leo's programme on Connie Francis and the woman herself was talking on it.
Poor woman has had a tough life, beginning with her father. I hope she's found some happiness in her later years.
The story of her first date with Adam Faith.... ....he sounded a right Romeo.
