I think Lynn has blended in well with Terry. I don't know why she hasn't come out of the cupboard before now?
Now Ken asked her who is your favourite out of us three? There was a moment of silence and Lynn answered " ken you are the best man on the radio" he had a big grin on his face. |

Lady B did that the other week!
I thought she was fine, although it does make the show more generic now. |

Maybe, but I think the spark she has with Ken is better than the rapport she has with Terry. I'm sure she is a nice person and all that, but to me, she sounds far too butch for breakfast.... I am far too used to Fran's more cultured and softer tones. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

apparently ... the mass exodus from the closet, during the 80s and 90s has left the place like a ghost town .... so there's plenty of room in the closet for anyone who is interested; you should be able to pick up a bargain ... all the property pundits are saying .. the closet is an up and coming place ... so get in there now, before it becomes, "the place", to hang around in....
Lynn rocks! |

I'm wondering how the TOGs are taking it? Not well I'll wager. Wasn't that one of the high spots of the show for them? Haven't had a chance to look in at the TOGs board. I remember there was enough of a stink kicked up when they tried putting the travel bulletins after the news! How they're gonna take to no regular banter at all from Deadly, Fran etc I can only imagine! As I said before I really do think this is a calculated attempt to wind the show down. Paul died, now this. It just smacks to me of gradually continuing to take away the pieces of popularity so that when the time comes for Wogan to 'retire'... (I believe on the strength of all this very soon!)... there won't be so much of an uproar. _________________ Who Can Take A Sunrise, Sprinkle It With Dew... |

There hasn't really been much said on the TOGs board about Lynn lately but as you say there was a huge uproar when it was announced she was taking over.
Maybe they have realised Lynn is not such a bad old girl after all
Someone has just posted on the TOGs site that they are missing Johnnie Walker Brave girl |

Heard some of the show this morn. Hmm... Fran didn't sound too happy to me to be sidelined to just news. Lynn sounded like she knew her presence was potentially upsetting TOGS and newsreaders alike. Wogan sounded ok, though some of the letters are still pretty thin on content and laughs aren't they? Surely he gets enough mail to be able to cherry pick only the very best?
Still say the show is being wound down. _________________ Who Can Take A Sunrise, Sprinkle It With Dew... |

I can't say really noticed anything different about Fran, Lynn sounded fine too. Terry sounds a little flat, that might be post holiday blues. but I think he is missing the banter.
You could be right about things winding down. |

Anyone noticed the subtle changes to the DP with SK reading out loads of email stories etc early on, and the last word....... it's all going a bit TOGish........ In the past, SK has talked mainly about herself, between the tracks..... I wonder if she's being lined up for a later start and an extension as part of a change around when TW hangs up his headphones at the end of March. |

Hi Ernie,
I guess it's a< pulls face> bit like that but it's for over 70 s or under 13s? ( I can't remember).
It's not a bad thing it's good ..it's nice to have a listeners feature on the SK show .....the whole thing ( DP) has changed its feel over the last two weeks, it's now a different show entirely..... |

To answer the original question, it's only Wednesday of their first week so give them time to gel!
I've not heard so much of Wogan this week so can't really say one way or t'other. It's very early days.

And also bear in mind we will have Lynn every week as opposed to 1 in 3 under the other system. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

I'm not sure if you're saying that's a good or a bad thing? Thing was if you weren't keen on Fran's dialogue with Wogan or Boggy's or Deadly's you only had to wait a week for something else. With Lynn it's very much take it or leave it. Of course most TOGS will take it, though they'll perhaps have preferred the old regime, simply because there's no-where else for them to go and Wogan for them, let's face it, could play wall-to-wall grunge and garage and have Jade Goody doing the travel and they'd still listen!! _________________ Who Can Take A Sunrise, Sprinkle It With Dew... |

Lets just see how she gets on, it must be difficult for the poor lass thinking that there are TOGs who don't want her there.
She is doing her best and I think she's doing very well.
Anway maybe Tel will be off soon so it won't matter who does the travel |

I'd be very suprised if Lynn's naive enough not to think she's taken on something of a poisoned challis. THE top travel gig on national radio, but replacing the ones everyone else liked. Brave gal. Personally I think the last part of your message has more than a ring of truth. How's that old TOGS board reacting to things I wonder?? _________________ Who Can Take A Sunrise, Sprinkle It With Dew... |

I don't know if Lynn had much choice in the matter or if she was just told what she would be doing.
There hasn't been much reaction on the TOGs board (yet!) but if the last bit does have some truth to it, which I'm beginning to suspect it does that place will go bonkers Hardhats must be worn |

Yes, but that is an entirely different programme. Part of Terry's show's appeal (at least for me) was the interplay between the three newsreaders and TW, each bringing their own little quirks to the table, plus TW's different responses to each of them. They also brought out the best in the contributions from the public. LB doesn't engender that sort of response. I'm not blaming her personally for the changes but IMHO the programme has changed for the worse. Why the status quo could not have been left until TW finally retires is anyone's guess.
I'm not as bothered as I would have been in the past if I miss out on listening to Terry's show now - it's just not the same. In fact, I've missed two shows this week already with one thing or another, and I'm not falling over myself trying to allocate time to listen to them again. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

I think its going to get stale very soon. We already know everything we want to about her on the Dawn Patrol & Ken's show. I await the first week of Bobby Prior on Wogan's show with interest. Lets see if he can coax more than a monsyllabic response from her. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

I don't think Bobbi Prior is due to do the travel in the mornings except perhaps as cover for Lynn when she is on holiday. |

Personally, I always found Lynn a bit OTT, a bit "in yer face" compared to Fran's gentler innuendo. But we'll see how it goes. As someone said earlier, TW is getting to be less compulsive listening than previously. At one time I used to contribute to the show, and had stuff read out fairly regularly, but these days it has a lower visibility for me. Shame, but all things pass. Can't imagine who could replace him though, and achieve the heady attractions of earlier years. Certainly not CE. "End of" for me in such eventuality. Still, I could get a lot more done around the house in the mornings, so maybe not such a bad idea.............. |

I decided to give it a little while before I made my mind up about Lynn joining in with Tel. To be honest I think she's doing fine it's just that I don't think she buys into the TOGs thing at all,at times she sounds a bit embarrassed by the childishness of it all,
Her stints with Ken are much more relaxed and seem that much more genuine and friendly. Maybe if Tel talked more to her than at her (via silly poems etc)things might improve. _________________ The wheel keeps on turning...

Sally Boazman is much more to my liking. She seems to blend in better with the shows she features on.
Lynn Bowles seems terribly loud to me. I quite like the fact that Dermot gives her a verbal slap every now and again-sort of puts her in her place. |

Lynn is fab... I like the way that she does her traffic reports: the Dawn Patrol traffic reports are a real feature of that show, which, without her, would be an unlistenable non-entity. Lynn has settled-in really well with Wogan, and is pure magic with Ken Bruce. I like her, a lot!
At the other end of the day, Sally B does an equally good job on the Chris Evans show but I just get a sense that she really has to squeeze her way past the ego of the Afternoon Show and is a little uncomfortable there. .. Just a feeling that comes over on air ......... |
