Yes a new 4 part series begins tonight at 9 pm.
I would have missed it if I hadn't gone to the schedules to find last Saturday's SOTS so thought I'd better post a heads up!

I spotted it in the Radio Times. Bill is always a good listen and that hour went very quickly! _________________ Pirate Johnnie Walker played my request on 11 April 2009 |

Hope you heard the Christmas edition Becky, it's a good one! I set it on the Sky Box but have just recorded it on to the laptop from iPlayer for posterity!

Not caught up with it yet,Helen,so thanks for the reminder. I've three of Bill's programmes to catch up with, including the Christmas one.The other night I watched Call The Midwife from Christmas...seemed a bit odd watching it in January...might be a bit the same with Christmas songs.. |

There weren't that many on Bill's show Becky so you should be okay.

You were right,Helen...not that many.
I've just finished listening to it ...I did it in bite sizes. Lots to enjoy,as you said.
And I have it on my Virgin box so can keep it as long as I like.
He played Beautiful Dreamer by Roy Orbison....a song composed in the 1860s!
Heard that a lot lately on an advert on the TV. |

It's on my Sky Box as well Becky. In fact I've started to put Don Black's show on there as well as it's often a bit late to listen and as you say it's there for whenever you want to listen.
I think I've some of Bill's previous Christmas shows still on the Sky box so a lot to listen to!

Hadn't seen this so thanks,Helen.
Thankfully my Virgin box had noticed it too and had recorded it as one of my favourites.
Loved hearing Unit 4+2's You’Ve Never Been In Love Like This Before in the late (mid if we're splitting hairs) sixties slot. |

I'd have missed it too Becky but for the Radio Times which I have on subscription. I was reading the previous week's edition which I'd overlooked. I keep threatening to cancel it but I only started to get it when I regularly couldn't get a copy at my usual supermarket on a Friday morning when I normally do my shopping.

I used to always buy the Radio Times - latterly on subscription - until it went up to what I thought was an unreasonable price for a listings magazine. |

Just catching up with the 1st episode of this series, I know where does the time go to?.........
Anyway Bill sounds on good form and he said that future series will be in this new time slot 9 pm Sundays. Good that he is continuing as I wondered with the new schedules.
His producer seems to have changed back to Julie (?) and the Juke Box slot. Apparently Fiona has had a promotion, Bill wondered if she would be doing Don Black now........We'll see when he comes back!

Yes,Helen, his voice is sounding much better these days.
I listened to the latest programme the other day - Jules had me this week with Ruth Brown's This Little Girl's Gone Rockin'. Never heard it before.
Always enjoy hearing Eydie Gormé & Steve Lawrence with I Want To Stay Here - lovely song - lovely harmonies. |

I too love that song Becky, from 1963. I wasn't aware of it at the time (was only 10) but heard it on POTP a couple of years ago. |

There may have been a trailer on R2 this week, if so I missed it, but just to say Bill's new series begins this Sunday at 9pm.
4 episodes only, didn't there always used to be 6? Anyway it's better than none so mustn't grumble!

Luckily for me,Helen, my series link kicked in and recorded this but thanks for the reminder.
He played a record I'd never heard before by Marie and Rex. He went on to say that Marie (Knight) recorded Come Tomorrow (Manfred Mann) before they did. Found it on Youtube. She's got a great voice.
Felt a little cheated as Walk Don't Run and Perfidia are on the playlist but are just played in the background,as Bill talks, between songs. Same for a couple of others
Never heard Lyanna (lovely song) by Jimmy Campbell before. Come to think of it have never heard of Jimmy Campbell before.
Dream by Roy Orbison played but not on the playlist. |

The listing for this tonight says "Final Show" so maybe another long-running series that's ending? |

I new this was the last of this series but it does look ominous from that listing. Radio Times just says 4/4.
Glad I have a lot of recorded ones to keep me going!

Bill just said this show is different to the one he had planned when he heard last week that this would be his last. What a crying shame, who is Radio 2 actually for, not the listeners that is for sure. _________________ Pirate Johnnie Walker played my request on 11 April 2009 |

Bill said when he heard last week this would be the last one he had some thinking to do.
What a way to treat someone who has worked for you for 12 years.
Absolutely disgraceful behaviour from the BBC.
I think Bill was very gracious in his departure as was Don Black the other week.
Neither wanted to go, they were unceremoniously dumped by the BBC.
Really annoyed and saddened about this. |

What on earth is the BBC thinking! I have just heard that Clare Teal's Sunday night big band show is finishing after Christmas. |

Listening to Bill's last show just now and feel so sad knowing that there won't be anymore of the music and stories.
