Quite a coincidence that this morning's contestant no 1 was from Bellshill, Lanarkshire (my birthplace) and no 2 was from Chester (my much-loved adoptive home for a number of years).
Not that it did my scores much good--18 and 15. I don't think I'll be applying to go on any time soon.

Have just done even worse today, with 12 and 9.
I even got a sixties one wrong--the last Walker Brothers one!

Did anyone hear the dreadfully embarrassing performances today
How on earth can anyone even think about going on there who - even with Ken's help - ends up scoring only five points
And then we get a 'so called' presenter on Isle of Skye radio who seems to know virtually nothing about music and who can't even recognise one of the best known tracks by Gladys Knight and the Pips or Leo Sayer's first hit track:roll:
I got so annoyed I had to turn the sound down on the first contestant but then I thought that the second one's got to be better but it turned out only very marginally
I'm beginning to think that unless contestants of a higher callibre start to apply the it might be time to put an end to this embarrassing fiasco _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

I missed it, but the very worst contestants are the ones who get 3 points, say "before my time" then spend five minutes doing hellos. |

I'm the opposite. With me it's "after my time". I've never seen a single "Britain's Got Strictly No Celebrity X Factor" (and I never will) so any questions about that are as incomprehensible to me as Klingon and how would I know what was number one in 2008? Does Radio 2 do a chart show that I've missed.
I do so agree with the "Can I say a few hellos please Ken". No! No one's interested. Go away _________________ I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. |

I know what you mean, but many of the bigger songs get played on Radio 2 incessantly anyway.
I always think it must be a real kick in the teeth (or a dose of reality) if an artist hears that the record that's been played every 2 hours for three weeks has had zero impact on a contestant. |

You've probably all heard feedback from the 'Popmaster' event held in Salford last Wednesday on behalf of Children in Need and I did wonder being that I live less than an hour away whether I should have gone - but in the end I decided against it
However listening to reports about the event it made me wonder whether maybe next year we should get some members from here to attend as I'm sure we could wipe the floor with most of the competition and at the same time gain valuable publicity for the forum which might encourage new members and more activity
As far as I can gather each table played against the other tables so if we took over a whole table or even half a table then I'm sure with our collective musical knowledge we'd stand a very good chance of winning - and whilst I don't like the CIN formula in general after all it is for a decent cause
I don't know whether next year's event will be in Salford but as we have members in most parts of the country I'm sure we could muster a decent collective - what are your thoughts on this _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

I too wondered about trying to get tickets but just as well I didn't as I've had flu for the last 10 days.
It would be a good idea for next year though, I'd be interested.

Rudds, I think that with the temporary closure of the BBC's biggest studio -TC1 - at Television Centre, where CIN has always been produced, it's possible that it's been moved to MediaCity Salford - at least until the four main studios at TVC have been refurbished. If that's the case, there could well be another Salford Popmaster next year! |

Well in that case Colin with the number of members we have in the North West of England I reckon the opposition is in for a real pasting _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

It was held at the Lowry hotel in Salford not Media Centre though, so I suppose it could move elsewhere next year.
Also I think CIN this year is at Elstree.

I'm useless at guessing the year so one time listening to Popmaster I was pleasantly surprised when I got it right and the contestant on the programme got it wrong. And it wasn't a guess - I was pretty sure. |

Finished them last night,Helen.
Watching the last programme in the rounds when Vicky was introduced as being from Manchester and a community DJ the thought struck me she was perhaps the Vicky Richardson who used to be on one (or more) of the groups most of us on here were on?
I looked her name up to see if she was V Richardson and straightaway saw she won the blumming thing, before I watched it!
I watched it anyway - she knows her stuff!
Congratulations to her.
Was that anything to do with your story? |

Yes it was Becky!
I met Vicky and did a couple of shows with her at All FM and had a lot of fun. She asked me to take down 2 or 3 tracks that I could attach a bit of a story to. I loved doing that and she said she had quite a bit of good feedback from it which felt good!

Ahh! I knew I knew her from somewhere.
Some of those contestants were scarily good.
I really enjoyed the series, but think it would probably work better as a 30-minute show rather than an hour. This was a 'pilot series' so hopefully it will be back at some point. |

I thought at first that an hour seemed too long,Ian,but after watching it I liked all of the categories and changed my mind. |

I remember Vicky. But I had no idea that was her when I watched a few Popmasters a few weeks ago. I thought she would take some beating, as she appeared to have a photographic memory.
I quite enjoyed the added rounds, as it would have been a bit on the bare side if it was an hour of Popmaster on the radio and they are after selling it to other countries. Also makes a Popmaster a fairer game, as Vicky was quite a way behind a couple of others after the first couple of rounds, if I remember correctly.
Since then, I've Googled her and she's quite the celeb. Good luck to her and nice anecdote, H! _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |

I never once saw an advert for PopMaster on BBC TV (obviously didn't need it) but lately I have seen (quite a few times now) an advert for Ten To The Top. It's always on just before the BBC News at 6. |
