There is a Radio 3 series of Composer of the Week starting on Monday 28th August at noon about the history and development of light music. I'm looking forward to it. |

Excellent! Was browsing BBC Sounds the other night and thinking there's not nearly enough light music on the radio anymore |

Yes, I saw John Wilson's Prom. I am looking forward to seeing him in November for his concert of Hollywood's Greatest Hits.
I love light music - Eric Coates, Ronald Binge, Albert Ketelbey, Robert Farnon - lovely! |

Thanks for this reminder Eileen! I don't get Radio Times anymore and miss the radio bit more than the TV.
I downloaded the JW prom so will watch sometime this week.
Have you got your tickets yet for the JW tour Eileen? I phoned Bridgewater Hall last week as we don't have ours, and they said at the time of booking they may be digital by the time of concert. They should arrive by October was the answer.

Hi Helen, yes we have E-Tickets with QR codes and got them several weeks ago. We are going to the Anvil Theatre in Basingstoke on 4th November. Just two months to wait now. |

I have one more to savour of this brilliant series. It's such a pity that you can't download them. If you have forgotten to listen to these, just listen to the fourth one, featuring Ronald Binge, Robert Farnon and Eric Coates. Right at the end, Roger Moffatt sombrely broadcasting the last seconds of the Light Programme. I definitely had something in my eye when listening to it. Thanks again, Eileen
Just a few days to do so...

Just listening to it now Raver thanks for the link. Interestingly it was John Wilson conducting on the recording they played of Eric Coates' Knightsbridge.

At the start of the first programme Donald Macleod mentions the song 'Sumer is icumen in' which took me back to my school days and singing it in the choir - think 'Early One Morning' was one we used to sing as well but the memory of that is not as vivid as the Sumer one.
I recorded these programmes via my Virgin TV but for whatever reason the 5th one didn't record so I listened to it before it disappears.
My goodness how stirring The Dam Busters March is! |
