Don't forget to tune into another of Richard Allinson's Record Producers show this Monday evening.
The producer he is featuring is Hugh Padgham.
Should be an excellent show as always. |

I am listening now Mark, not a great Phil Collins fan, but it is, as always with RA, very interesting and well presented. Pity we can't have more presenters that have a depth of knowledge and enthusiasm for music and less celebs on R2.

Lesley Douglas is so obsessed with celebrity types sadly at the expense of real music professionals. |

It's on my Listen Again schedule for this week, as is the SW doc on Billy Joel - more for the subject matter than the presenter, although I'll be interested to see whether he can do serious radio for a change.

One small criticism if I may. It did get rather obsessed with the fact that they had discovered old demo tapes. Fair enough they added to the development of the story and our understanding of the process of making the records but did we need to hear 4 or 5 times how lucky we are that this tape was found and that it is unique, etc.
Other than that a very good documentary.

Some years ago, Steve Wright did a Bee Gees documentary and it was very good and I am no fan of his usual shows.

Well its clearly something he enjoys doing and his enthusiasm seems to carry across to the radio, so maybe he should do more of them or a similar series.
There were only supposed to be 6 of these shows in the series - right? That must be near the last of them now if thats the case.
The Gambo article yesterday had me thinking of Allinson. Maybe he wants to diversify his work like Gambo these days.
Although they have very different DJ styles, Allinson does come across in a similar vein to Gambo on the Record Producer series. These shows are obviously time intensive to research & produce. I get the feeling that he does much of the research himself.

I'd certainly be all for RA being used to present such programmes in lieu of a regular DJ slot, since it appears he's unlikely to get one in the near future.

I think that was the last one in the series. It's been great hearing them. My favourite was the one with Tony Visconti, mainly because he's worked with some of my favourite artists - Marc Bolan, Bowie.
Still got it on cd somewhere, must dig it out.

Interesting show, I liked the XTC bit in particular, well done Steve Levine and Neal Minors. |
