With many thanks to Ernie who has advised in another thread that the mighty Richard Allinson will back on Radio 2 w/c 30-04-07 covering for Steve Wright in the afternoon slot.
This is great news for all RA fans-no doubt Richard will be playing great music over the course of the week, the oldies wil be played on time, there will be great interviews with folk who "will be allowed to speak/who will be interviewed in a profesional manner" etc etc-all in all a great week of radio entertainment to look forward to.
Bring it on Richard and make sure sure Lesley Douglas et all you all tune in as well.
Richard Allinson rocks. |

Yeah, me too, Toggy.
What an effortless show this morning - great music and great chat. This is how R2 should be all the time.
Got a shock when I heard SK say Rich was next, thought we'd got it wrong wh he was covering. Twice in one day on R2....come on, Lesley - this dependable a DJ deserves a spot. _________________ Some say he once threw a microwave oven at a tramp and that all his potted plants are called 'Steve'.....all we know is, he's called 'The Stig!'. |

I too hope that the Togmeister is soon fit and well. However a good, smooth show this morning with plenty of chuckles on the drive into work this morning. Fortunately, the prog rock mp3 also has a radio so I listened when I got in.
This man Should have a permanent spot, 2 - 5 or 5 - 7 would be OK by me. _________________ Geddon

I take it Richard had advanced warning of Terry's abcence, it didn't sound like a last minute thing. He played some good music but the poor fellow seems to only be brought in when someone is ill or on holiday, give him a regular slot. |

I do like RA. As an uninformed listener, could anyone tell me how he manages to be available at short notice, or are his BFBS progs. pre recorded.
Hope Togmeister recovers soon |

Are you sure he was on this morning, and indeed that Ken Bruce is on as I type this. I clicked the webcam button and below is what I saw! Is Jeremy Vine really on holiday?!!

Ken is Broadcasting from the Media Museum in Bradford, which also houses the Bradford studios. I think the webcam is on the fritz. _________________ Geddon

Good question.
Didn't get a chance to listen to BFBS today - was he on? I do know that BBC and BFBS have a good working relationship - note forces crossover shows and I guess Richard's contract would have him priorotising R2 work.
So if he was on today, I'm guessing they have a few pre-recorded shows in the can or Terry rang in sick yeasterday and they contacted Richard (very accomodating) and he recorded a show for BFBS.
I'm getting a bit sticky with this aren't I - am I right anyone or totally wrong? _________________ Some say he once threw a microwave oven at a tramp and that all his potted plants are called 'Steve'.....all we know is, he's called 'The Stig!'. |

Richard menitioned he got up at 5 this morning so I would gather that Terry knew yesterday that he wouldn't be well enough to do his program today. |

Its not really a qustion of Richard being "very accomodating". He will be contracted to provide short notice illness cover for the station & probably gets a fee for the same regardless of whether he is used by the station or not. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Yes, I get that - I meant it's very accomodating for anyone to have such a contract, especially if they may have other commitments. _________________ Some say he once threw a microwave oven at a tramp and that all his potted plants are called 'Steve'.....all we know is, he's called 'The Stig!'. |

Sadly I was not able to listen in live to Richard Allinson earlier today as I had one of those e-mails you dread receiving over the weekend from my company's CEO advising "I would want to see you in my office at 7.30am on Monday morning"-he even had the nerve to send it to me while I was wartching my beloved Chelsea in action at Newcastle United yesterday.Has my CEO no shame/no love of football I ask.
I can confirm though that Richard was not able to deliver his daily show on BFBS Radio 2 as he was of course sitting on for Terry Wogan. Richard Hutchinson sat in for Richard Allinson earlier today on BFBS Radio 2.
Will have to try and listen to RA on the Listen Again feature this evening. I'm sure RA delivered a high performance show though sitting on for Terry.
By the way I thought Johnnie Walker was the first choice for sitting for Terry-maybe I imagined this. |

And you couldn't even beat us, which is a big surprise considering the state of the Toon at the moment. Chelski must have been having a bad day at the office too - three bookings, no goals....
Was listening to Alex whilst driving up to Gare Loch early this morning, when he announced RA would be sitting in as TW was under the weather. Seems TW was ill yesterday, so R2 had plenty of notice. Put some CDs on instead of SK but switched back to R2 at 0730 - made the journey go that much quicker!
Julian Worricker was sitting in for JV, listened for part of the way home. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Hi Cherskiy-Richard Allinson rocks for BBC Radio 2.
Had a great day up in Newcastle yesterday-the Toon Army very welcoming as usual-personally I think you have the best fans in the UK-so loyal yet so starved of success.Your passion is just fantastic-love the stadium-so noisy we you all sing.
Not a terribly good day at the office for us but I thought we were the better side overall. So much football to look forward to over the next 3/4 weeks-it gonna cost me a fortune-potentially we could play Man U 3 times in 2 weeks-Premiership next week at Stamford Bridge, FA Cup Final and possibly Athens in Champions League final if we see off Liverpool.
Quite how I'm going to fit in listening in to Richard Allinson shows during this time is going to be a challenge-I've also got to factor in moving house next week and possibly a change of job to a new company after 25 years with the same firm.
Life is busy just now.
Hope you are well. |

Hi Mark
Glad you had a good day in Newcastle! My OH was there supporting the home team, naturally he was thannkful for the draw although we don't mind if you can topple ManU from the top . We may have been behind you on the way back south!

Mark,
Thanks for that - means I don't have to 'listen again' to the BFBS show today.
Glad we made you welcome in the toon although I must say that is an appaling way for a manager to contact you, and a great message - that would have me paniking all weekend!!!!
Hope all turns out ok, Mark _________________ Some say he once threw a microwave oven at a tramp and that all his potted plants are called 'Steve'.....all we know is, he's called 'The Stig!'. |

I would expect Richard records shows for BFBS on a daily / weekly basis, and rotates them too keep them up to date? They couldn't use the one from today if Terry was sick next Monday. I would expect he's on a year on year contact. I wouldn't expect he's only at Radio 2 when he's covering shows.
I remember the old guys from Radio 1 used to say they didn't have anything to do when they just worked at the weekends and just were sitting around, but the technology has got bigger now. |

Mark O-Not sure if I fully understand your message on this thread.
For avoidance of doubt Richard presents his show live each and everyday on BFBS Radio 2 except when he is working for BBC Radio 2 like today or on the odd occasion at Christmas time when a weeks worth of his shows were pre-recorded.
I tune into the show everyday either live or listen to it later in the day on the Listen Again feature (I have missed very few). He oftens remarks about his journey into work, the BFBS car park which floods when it rains, who is in the ofices on the particular day in question and often has Hemina Graham the dj who follows Richard at 11am in for a chat at about 10.45am to advise what's on her show that day. These are all tell tale signs that the shows goes out live. They are certainly not churned either-he has different things going on in the show each week and I have never detected that " hang on I have heard all this before". |

I think it's who lives the closest. Mark Goodier when he was on Radio 2 was always the first choice for that reason. |

Another excellent show this morning, the chuckle quotient was again high. Richard has a good rapport with Fran and Lynn, and his intro to Father Brian set the right tone.
Please let there be justice and give this man a regular daytime slot. _________________ Geddon
