Stick a red rosette on a chimp in my ward and it would get elected so I didn't bother. _________________ Geddon

I voted. It was really odd. We had two elections , one for the Town and one for the County Council. In one we had to choose two out of four candidates , two Conservative and two Lib Dems and in the other we had to choose up to five out of ten candidates, there were only four Conservatives and six Lib Dem candidates ... No Labour in either election....
Tony Blair's lot are happy to take our taxes but they can't even be bothered to put a candidate up, for us to ignore.
Speaks volumes about the ethos of new labour. |

Yes. But I work for the local council so wouldn't dream of divulging for whom I voted!

I voted. My local councillors have always worked hard to make sure that things get done in our locality and I believe that local politics comes before national politics.
I always vote as a matter of principle.
If you do not vote in local council elections then please do not complain about such things as bi-weekly rubbish collections or street lighting that has not been fixed.
Use it or lose it. |

I'll second that, democrocy is like a good reputation, very difficult to achieve; but oh so easily lost. Yes I voted as years ago when serving overseas, in the RAF, it was sometimes impossible to exercise your right to vote, and I felt cheated. As Fred so rightly says, "use it or lose it".

Where did all the Scottish Socialists go? They lost something like 14 seats? Has Scotland renounced socialism? _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

I see also that an 18 year old was elected in Essex. They do things at a younger age in Essex. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

The socialist party tore itself apart last year when their leader, the infamous and tanned Tommy Sheridan, took (I think) the News of the World to Court over allegations of visits to swingers clubs etc. Some of the party's MSPs testified against Tommy. He was standing in this election under a separate party.
The win for the SNP is very much a protest vote against Labour. Alex Salmond will need to get into bed with the Lib Dems and the Greens to form a functional Government.
We are a long long way from the SNP having a mandate to call for independence.

Yes, I agree.
As Mark Occomore didn't vote he no longer has the right to start threads about the London Mayor, Hospital Phones, Hospital Car Parks, the Budget, Schools, Kids ID Cards, etc. (to name a few he's started). |
