Current members ...202.
Yet i have just scrolled down the members list and i make it..68 so called members who have not posted a single reply.
Why join a message board and not join in.
Any ideas? _________________ The Voice of reason in a MAD MAD world |

You find that all over the Internet - on forums like this one and on the Usenet newsgroups. There's usually three categories (although not always) - 1) the regulars who effectively keep the forums going, 2) the occasional posters and 3) the lurkers (who rarely de-lurk unless something really catches their eye).
The lurkers may not post for a variety of reasons. In my experience of Usenet newsgroups, it's because of any or all of the following:
They're too shy;
They're too intimidated by the rapport that the existing posters have got going;
They see new posters being slapped down for no good reason (that doesn't happen here of course!);
They think they've got nothing constructive to say;
They find the forum's not for them and never return, but they're still on the membership list;
They just prefer to lurk.
Please prove me wrong and de-lurk for a bit! _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

I know but there could be many reasons why people join and don't post most of which have been covered in Cherskiy's post.
I hardly think that calling someone a 'so called member' as in the first post in this thread is going to encourage anyone to contribute though. |

This reminds me of those who register on Friends Reunited but don't supply any info about themselves and don't answer emails from others--why be a member on that basis?
