Here is the News:
Thursday: HM Revenue and Customs want to look at taking payments direct from bank accounts.
Friday: At least 100,000 people are paying the wrong tax.
Eh?

After agreeing my tax liability with HMRC for last year (I had a bit of a wrangle and it's taken time to sort out) I then received a letter last week telling me that I owe them another £900 which should be paid within 30 days. Yesterday, I wrote the Collector a letter which, to paraphrase, said "Get stuffed". I await their reply. |

Sounds just like you fred
I'm thinking about doing my tax return on-line. Anyone been successful (i.e. no hassles) doing it that way ?

We do it on line, using taxcalc software. (Well he who has the grey matter does it!) It's a doddle and no hassle.
Unlike the days when I once retaliated to the Tax Office with a sarcastic quip. They were never off my case for at least 2 years until someone there moved on, or another smart alec occupied their attention.

Hi John.
After HMRC made a complete orchestra of my tax the first year after I left the NHS, I became interested in going online and first attempted to take the plunge in 2005--only to find that the site had crashed and I couldn't do it! I've got on fine with online since then.

Yes, I did this last year. It's actually a good system - you can part do it, save it, go back to it, adjust the figures to fit (!) and then eventually submit it. I like it, overall.
Until, that is, they cock up and send me a demand for something I don't owe from a previous year when I submitted loads of paper. |

And the EU now want us to abolish out zero tax on childrens clothes and books and newspapers. Why? Well to bring us in line with everyone else and to make the system easy to run.
Hmmm, I'm all for fair taxation but to simply try to bring a tax in to 'make everything uniform and run ok' is beurocracy gone mad!
This is going to be tanled in 2008/2009. Let's hope our government at the time stands up and say's no way!
taxing reading indeed!!! Can you imagine the strain this will put on education getting new school books, etc. _________________ Some say he once threw a microwave oven at a tramp and that all his potted plants are called 'Steve'.....all we know is, he's called 'The Stig!'. |
