After today the Police Service of Northern Ireland takes responsibility for security matters overseen for the last 38 years by the British Army.
Some troops will remain in the province but the number will be only about one-sixth of what it was in the early 70s.
Some of the memories shared on the Jeremy Vine show today were unbearably poignant.
Is anyone who served in NI in those troubled times reading this? If so, would you like to share any memories, security considerations permitting?

Some of the comments on fivelive were vicious and unnecessary. _________________ Geddon
