I thought the Married man was taxed less? Labour Party removed it and introduced Working and Child Tax Credits.

Tax credits are so complicated that up to 40% of payments are wrong at any one time, this means that many parents, be they married or not, either owe or are owed money by the Inland Revenue. In many cases, like mine, I have letters from them telling me I owe them money and, arriving within days, letters telling me they owe me money, both coming from the same office! So a realisation that a system that is so complicated it penalises those it is supposed to be helping and is also extremely costly to operate seems to be apparent to even New Labour and they are now stealing another Tory idea. Tax incentives to support marriage as the accepted family unit were present for decades until removed by Golden Brown and New Labour in an act of crazy political correctness, IMHO. If you don't believe me, take a look at:-
