David Beckham has been recalled to England's squad for the friendly in Austria and the final Euro 2008 qualifier against Croatia.
If Russia beat Israel and Andorra - and Croatia avoid defeat in Macedonia on 17 November - England cannot qualify even if they beat Croatia four days later.
Beckham has recovered from injury and England coach Steve McClaren said: "We need big-game players like David."
Captain John Terry and striker Wayne Rooney are both out with injuries.

Only because if we don't qualify then he won't be playing for England anymore. Go out with a bang..

Never mind. It's just a game of two halves. |

Well at least Beckhams not normally a liability like Rooney is and Gazza was, IMHO, England is better off without Rooney.

Wondering if we should just do away with this section and put a link to BBC news. |

I've checked the filters, and I can only see problems with F@@@ and S words, as well as some odd filters. But if there were issues with F words, they are probably resolved. |

Something weird is going on. When I type in "Frankenstein" it comes out as "Frankenstein" - how weird is that? And when I type in "Mel Brooks Is A Genius" it comes out as "Springtime For Hitler". What the hell is that all about? Is JW taking the proverbial mickey out of us all? |

Here are my thoughts on Beckham being recalled for England Rovers....
1) What hair style will he have?
2) Is he only being allowed back (by his missus) so he can meet her on her tour?
3) Surely we are past this toga, bling bling idiot now! Didn't he tearfully retire - is this his Sinatra moment? _________________ Some say he once threw a microwave oven at a tramp and that all his potted plants are called 'Steve'.....all we know is, he's called 'The Stig!'. |

As I always say, it's just a game of three thirds. |

Hi Andy, how ya doin? All possibly true but, IMHO, he still has something to add on the field of play, but not as captain, I must add.

Doing very well thankyou BB, how's your good self?.
You may be right, and I may have been a little harsh (with my tongue in cheek) but I remebmber the footballists from the 70's and the ganes were so much better then without any image rubbish from the outside....except maybe the odd punch up at a night club or too.
I personally think he only excelled in free kicks near the goal, that's kow we seemed to win games lately. Remember the world cup when Micky Rooney was subbed - the team seemed to gel together after that, no pussy footing around the perceived 'leader'.
If he does come back as captain, and I agree he shouldn't, what a smack in the face for the current captain. _________________ Some say he once threw a microwave oven at a tramp and that all his potted plants are called 'Steve'.....all we know is, he's called 'The Stig!'. |

I'm fine thanks Andy. I would agree that we don't seem to have so many players that are there to play football and not be full of their own "celebrity" status. We also don't seem to have the characters in the game, people like Norman Hunter, Franny Lee, Malcom McDonald, the Charlton brothers and more recently Stuart Pearce. I used to go and watch Forest in the 70's & 80's and still do occasionally, but the game is too money orientated now, IMHO. I now prefer to watch my youngest grandson play in a Sunday league, I even got to see him play at Wembley in August and get a medal presented by Sir Geoff Hurst and that means more to me than when I watched Geoff Hurst get his world cup winners medal in 66, on the tele of course.
