Fewer sick and disabled people will qualify for disability benefits for being unable to work, after a new test is introduced from next year.

The government is throwing money at this problem. They do need to sort it out as some are just rinsing the system. A lot have been able to work and caught on camera. |

I take the point that the existing guidelines or qualifications, based as they are on the time when Britain had a manuafacturing industry requiring lots of hard, physical labour, need updating to encourage anyone lightly disabled who is relying wholly on the benefit to find employment in this age of the computer and call-centre.
I did find it a bit rich that, yet again, the Labour Government spokesman put up for interview on BBC Breakfast this morning, blamed the Conservative government of the 80s, as if they've had insufficient time in the last ten years to do anything about it.
As usual it looks as though they'll push the new terms through without first getting on board the necessary proper specialist opinion. Doctors etc say they're already hard-pressed - is it going to be up to the old matron or wet-behind-the-ear in the Job Centre to decide if you're disabled or not? _________________ Ron |

Like RockitRon I understand why the Government wishes to introduce this but think it'll be quite tough to redeploy people appropriately, especially if there is any question that medical opinion might be hard to obtain.

Locally to my area, and to others, the Government are closing down the Remploy factories putting many disabled workers out of a job. Where is the sense in this if they want to get 'scroungers' back to work? |
