I've watched two or three parts of the TV series showing the St Pancras £800 million rebuild story so far; including tonight's programme.
Is it me? The whole thing seems a joke!.
Nothing seems to be on time, nothing is finished, nothing looks good, the finishes are appalling and very predictable and worst of all, the people in charge seem to have no authority what so ever! including the National Trust architect who burst into tears last week!
Even the "focal point" bronze statue shown tonight wasn't finished on time and only 20% of the retail units will be finished.
The striking thing to me however is, who's fooling who on this? apart from the original structure, the thing looks a mess! ugly, bland and characterless.
They said tonight it'll be the worlds most glamorous railway station. Hello?? Have these people seen Grand Central Station in New York?
The snippet of the next programme covering the grand opening with the Queen present only proves to me how much they relied upon fancy lighting effects. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

Yes, I haven't seen the previous parts of this, but I watched and listened in disbelief and embarassment at the incompetance, disorganisation and, after much huffing and puffing, the resignation that much of the station, other than the railway line itself, was not ready in time.
At least they got their priorities right so that the news coverage of the opening didn't pick up on this and leave Britain with (more) egg on its face in the eyes of the watching world.
I haven't seen it in person yet. When I was down there nine months ago just on a trip to London, it struck me as a mass of cold concrete blocking.
It doesn't exactly bode well for the construction and infrastructure work required for the Olympics, does it? _________________ Ron |
