Here we go again.
Each Christmas for years and years, in the town of Alnwick, only about 40 miles from me, Santa Claus has come into the Town Centre on his sleigh, pulled by a trailer.
Now this has been banned as Santa isn't insured.
Coming in on the bus, as he's now being required to do, just isn't quite the same!

I heard that on TV this morning along with the news that some towns won't be bothering with Christmas street lighting because they now have to have fixing bolts X rayed for faults and the Fire Crews now have to be specially trained to take them down.
I was talking to a mother with an 11 year old son today, and she hasn't a clue what to buy him for Christmas because he has everything already! at 11? is that sad or what?
I could never had had enough toy cars, trains or plastic kits to make when I was a lad...
I wish they'd hurry up inventing the time machine. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

A colleague of mine is involved in Christmas lights in our local town and it's a total nightmare of regulation compared with formerly.
We're getting a limited display but I don't blame Councils who decide it just isn't worth all the hassle.

Something I meant to add--last year, in addition to some 'treat' presents, I bought Mrs W 25 trees.
They weren't delivered here but went to Africa to be planted where there was a great need for them.
Can't remember the name of the relevant website but you can search for details of ethical presents--an ideal solution if you don't know what to give someone (or even if you do).

A cousin of mine driving through a town inadvertantly slid and mounted a roundabout, and snapped their 30ft Christmas tree. It and its lights fell and landed on a bus stop.
Nobody was waiting for a bus at the time <phew> |

cue a health and safety spokesperson saying.....
"see , we told you it could happen , we must now erect 5ft concrete walls round all uk traffic islands to prevent a repeat of this fluke accident"
