|

Leslie Ash is to receive a record £5million damages for the hospital superbug which wrecked her career.
The compensation deal - signed by her lawyers yesterday - is ten times the £500,000 she was initially reported to have been awarded.

As a taxpayer who ultimately picks up part of the tab for this I'd say it beggars belief, bearing in mind it was reported she was offered £250,000, wanted £1 million and was expected to get £500,000.
Bearing in mind the strange circumstances that put her in hospital to begin with (she got husband off assault charge by saying it was "energetic sex") and the fact that she'd already snookered herself, acting and earnings wise, by having private cosmetic surgery (which went wrong) on her lips, I can't imagine how they arrived at £5 million.
Perhaps she needs it for a new wardrobe. Her Judy Finnegan moment (the Mail's photo) makes me want to heave. _________________ Ron |

I must admit that she doesn't seem to have much luck medically.

"Cut down in her prime"?? who's fooling who here? she was pretty much washed up and that's possibly partly due to the rediculous surgery she had done on her lips.
This "award" makes me sick and we're having to pay for it.
I can just imagine the compensation panel listening to all the garbage from her lawyers and swallowing it all like a load of spineless jellyfish in this pc world we've created.
It's about time heads in the NHS were put under threat themselves to clean up our hospitals as other countries have ( is it Holland where MRSA is non existant due to British practices which were suggested and not taken up over here? )
Otherwise, we'll see plenty more crazy compensation claims which the tax payer will pick up. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

Whilst I sympathise and agree that she did deserve some compensation surely 5 million is way ott This is hardly going to help the NHS is it. |

Yeah, she deserves a little something, but all those crispies for what? What work? Macclesfield Pantomime playing an ugly Sturgeon in Cinderella, the odd MFI advert - showing off her glass baubles on QVC? Gimme a break. _________________ Eternal nothingness is fine if you happen to be dressed for it. |

I'm not completely without sympathy for Miss Ash but £5 million could have paid the salaries of 250 nurses or 70 consultants for a year.

It was not MRSA, it was MSSA. (See link below) Maybe the Hospital trusts will be forced to clean up their acts now, I don't necessarily agree with the size of the payout but do feel that hospitals should be resposible for any illness contracted by any patient and directly attributable to the hospital.
