He's much younger than I thought... mind you, I'm still expecting Condelesa Rice to give David Miliband a lollypop.

I like the way he gets on with presenting the news. Very clean and tidy and never makes any comments at the end.

I remember many years ago back in the old days of Radio 1 when there wasn't many well newsreaders around, the DJ's used to make comments about some of the News items after the news. If I can remember that had too be dropped.

Some of them had quite extreme viewpoints. Mike Reid over on Big L tends to comment on the news alot. He would be to the right of most Conservative MP's Laughing

I've heard Rick Wakeman comment on news stories before over on Planet Rock.
But he's only saying what most of us would feel about some of the ridiculous "news" items we have.
I don't like this super clean perfectly pc world we're trying to create, why not have some off the cuff comments? particularly about the likes of Britney Spears, Winehouse and Vic Beckham... Razz

I think most listeners enjoy such remarks. JW used to make them on Drive and Jeremy Vine often comments.

I agree with you Helen-I think most listeners enjoy hearing the DJ/presenter commenting on the current news stories read by the newsreader.

Richard Allinson for example quite often does this and will comment on the stories with the newsreader himself-light banter etc and hence we see a different side to the newsreader as well.

I remember Allinson making some questionable comments & indeed bizzare remarks about some news stories at the end of bulletins which just left me scratching my head and saying "what was that all about" Rolling Eyes

Anyone remember when Dan Rather in the US used to do the CBS Evening News? For a while he went a bit bonkers and used to sign off the evening news by saying "Courage" instead of "Good Night"
