Northern Ireland First Minister Ian Paisley is to stand down from the post in May, he has announced.
He also said he would be resigning as leader of the DUP, a party he has led for almost 40 years.

Not sure why everyone's singing his praises. His intransigence was a large factor in why the Troubles lasted so long in the first place.

Ian, I think his achievement was to allow/accept Sinn Fein into the government on condition they renounce terrorism. Quite an achievement after the 90 years of murder that they all found a compromise. |

Thanks John. A fair point but I don't feel that it completely invalidates my earlier remarks. What can you make of a man who publicly denounces the Pope as the Antichrist?

Ian, I'm a Scottish proddy so the Pope has never meant anything to me. Soz.
Paisley made the Feinians climb down, that has changed NI. |

He also gave many hours of fun to us at Secondary School by trying to impersonate his accent (Prods & Caths alike) |

Quite so. Back in the 1970s I once went to a hospital party, where a moderately intoxicated consultant physician treated us to a prolonged impersonation of IP.

I have heard Van Morrison described as a singing version of Ian Paisley! Perhaps that's why Radio 2 are featuring Van the Man all next week! |

Briant, I bet you remember the Not The Nine O' Clock News sketch where Thin Lizzy's 'The Rocker' was dubbed over a Paisley speech! _________________ We made a land where crap is king and the good don't last for long.
