What would you recommend.
I am attracted to the new Audi A5.
What would you suggest-I'm ignoring Alistair Darling's anti car budget as the Labour Government are now a spent force /on borrowed time. |

Mark,
I've had an Audi A4 diesel Quattro from new as company car, great four years, though by the fourth year it belonged to me and I've had to start paying for services (£500) a new cam belt (rec. 60,000miles) (£500), two tyres (£180), brake pads (£105).
My insurance isn't bad at under £300.
It is such a joy to drive (when I compare it to wife's Polo and kids' Fords), smooth, quiet, great acceleration, comfortable and feel so safe (it's a 4x4 saloon) and on good runs get 10miles to the litre (45 miles/gallon).
Like all cars it will lose value, after 3 years it was still worth ~£12500, about half it's new price in 2004.
I expect the A5 will be similar.

Thanks John-have had a few Audis in my time-A4 and various A3's.
Can't disagree with any of your complimentary comments.
Fancy the new A5 as a replacement for my current car. |

I'm seriously considering buying the new Mustang convertible. It really is a nice driving car and looks the mutts nuts to my eyes. It's a retro design recapturing the classic Mustang style.
I sold my previous Muzzy four years ago and now own a Merc convertible. Fabulous car but soooo boring!
Not sure I'd buy a brand new one ( about £28k over here ) but maybe a one or two year old one for £16k.
anyone wanna Merc? _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

I'm afraid that I have a car simply to get from A to B and still don't have a lot of idea what goes on under the bonnet.
I started learning to drive on a very unlovable red Mini Clubman in 1977 and even now have graduated only to a Fiat Punto.

When I first started this thread my intention was to buy a new second hand car for myself.
Somehow I have ended up buying the wife a car instead-it's a funny old world sometimes |
