It would seem that starting tomorrow week Russel is on at the earlier time of 8.30pm till 11. This will not be welcomed by many people I suppose |

So that's for Saturday NEXT week, what about Saturday THIS week 29th?
The R2 webpages really are baffling when it comes to THE SCHEDULE
Go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/listings/week.shtml
and it's
20:00 Icons Revisited
21:00 Russell Brand
but go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/proginfo/radio/wk14/sat.shtml
we find (updated 25 March):
Icons Revisited Buddy Holly Ep 1/10
Saturday 29 March
7.00-8.00pm BBC RADIO 2 (Schedule update 25 March)
so what is on at 8.00pm on 29th ?? Dylan ?? |

Strange isn't it that they feed us MORE garbage (Brand, O'Leary') yet completely remove anything of quality (Maconie).
Lesley Douglas really needs some major kicks up the backside -

Give extra half hours to presenters who clearly don't deserve ten minutes let alone a couple of hours, and remove well-liked and respected ones from the line-up completely. Where's the logic in that?
I'm sorry, Dame Lesley, but you're quickly alienating me from the network I used to know and love.... _________________ Author: To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992

I wonder if this is all her doing, or if she is obeying instructions 'from above'?
If it's solely her then the woman is clearly short of a couple of marbles ....... |

I think there's an element of cutbacks here - she's dropped one show (from Birmingham which is no longer being used) and not replaced it. Just extended the others, and brought in an import she's already paying for.
I don't know who listens to Brand but his podcast does very well, and that's why the BBC are so desperate to keep him happy. |

Mike Harding is down to do 3am-4am on a Saturday Morning next week, and Mo Dutta starts at 4am, presumably ending at 7am. |

I suspect the problem is that some of the programmes are not the right length for the new schedule. If you recall for a while Elaine Page ran from 1-3pm until they had new editions of the new 2 hour POTP's to broadcast from 2.30-4.30pm. Probably the extension of Brand is just temporary to fill a gap in the schedule.

Radio 2 used to repeat the folk & country shows overnight in the 1980's as well. Presumably its a money saving exercise. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

I don't see the point of repeating only Mike Harding and Paul Jones' specialist shows and not repeating others, say, Bob Harris Country. But still, he does do a show on a Saturday Night 11.00 - 2.00am... |

Does anyone know if it's true that Bob Dylan's Theme Time Hour is making its way to Saturday nights? I noticed in today's tv guide in the paper trhat it's on later this week (Weds/Thurs I think) which, considering it is already on 6 music, seems a bit too much.
The new schedule's cut down on documentaries and specialist shows by a couple of hours a week. Repeating Dylan's show on 2 smacks of cutbacks. I'm a fan of the show, but I don't think it needs repeating on 2 when it should be used to attract people to 6 music (as Brand once did!) Particularly in light of listen again, where Dylan is now available finally! Rant over |

Looks like it's on Thursday nights instead of the comedy show (and Sounds of the 70s, I guess). |

Indeed it was on Thursday, only just noticed! Catching up on listen again, great show. Still, I stand by my original point that in this day and age of listen again etc., the show doesn't need to be on 2 stations, surely?!
The show fits well in on Thursdays, straight after Mark Lamarr (hopefully he'll keep that slot permanently, and rotate his specialist shows). I guess the comedy show is no big loss, and justifies keeping the Saturday hour slot. The loss of Steve Harley's show is a shame, though it should have always been more than 30 mins. The show could have slotted in somewhere, like Saturdays, after Gambo. Then we wouldn't need a pointless extra 30 mins of Brand. But that's sensible talk... |

They certainly didn't need to scrap SOT 70s. If Steve Harley couldn't do it any more, Why not put another DJ on it, and yes, make it much longer than the miserly ½ hour it got before. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |
