Hooray! R2 is available 5-7 that week. Normally it's a no-go area 2-7. _________________ MiS |

For me SM is a disappointing choice as a stand-in for one of the best show on daytime R2. Occasionally SM can be interesting and he does seem to know a lot of stuff about music, but engaging and fun, he is not. |

It's all about opinions, Rachel. Yours and mine are poles apart, clearly! _________________ MiS |

I reckon they should give Dermot O'Leary a go at Drivetime. I think given time he could make a good go of it.
Always a delight to hear Mr Maconie on the radio so no complaints from me. _________________

Just typical, I'm out of the country that week! I'm sure Stuart will be great as usual. Why oh why oh why oh why did he lose the Saturday show.
Whoever said O'Leary should have a shot clearly missed his stint in for Ken. Even on his Saturday show, he's not very clear when he's talking away, no pitch at all.
Evans is certainly giving Wogan a run for his money in leave! |

Yay, TRIPLE whammy ..........
a) Evans is away. Bliss!
b) Stuart is covering for Evans - absolutely bliss!
c) Allinson is NOT covering for Evans - sheer joy - I'm in heaven! |

Rachel - as a fan of SM, I must say that after his recent stints on drivetime, I have to agree with you in terms of his success in that slot. But I can't understand why... he shows off a fine sense of humour in the evening show and, when his Saturday show first started (before he seemed to get bored with it, playing second fiddle to Dermot). I do wonder how the man finds time to live though between his radio times work, books, tv programmes and multi-station radio shows. The northern work ethic and all that I suppose... |

Arcader-Yet another posting from you which annoys the hell out of me which I totally disagree with on all points.
It's great to have an opinion don't you think.
By the way is the picture on your post your calling card?

I would agree. Problem is Evans is so loud and agitated that almost anyone else is going to sound subdued in comparison. The other SM, when covering for a spell recently, tried to emulate Evans in his speed of delivery and that didn't work either.
Interesting that Stuart is always used to cover Evans, and Radcliffe for Steve Wright. A swop around might be worth a try. _________________ Ron |

Stuart Maconie was also the regular stand in for Johnnie Walker in the days when we had a proper drivetime show. He should have got that gig instead of the numpty who was parachuted in. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |
