Edinburgh 08: Chris Evans is returning to television after a three-year absence to stand in for Adrian Chiles on The One Show.
The last time the former Big Breakfast and Don't Forget Your Toothbrush host presented a TV series was for OFI Sunday on ITV in 2005, but it was canned after just five episodes.
BBC1 controller Jay Hunt revealed the hiring at the Edinburgh TV festival this afternoon that she is "hugely excited" by Evans' appointment.
"People have failed to keep up with his career. He's a very different broadcaster now if you listen to his Radio 2 show.
"[The One Show] is a magazine show with light journalistic items and that's absolutely something Chris can do."

It must clash with his radio work surely? _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

I wonder if he'll bring along his little "Ding ding" from Drivetime? _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

Wont be much time to get his ding dong from Drivetime to the One Show given it starts at about 3 minutes to 7. Isn't the One Show made in Birmingham as well?
I never watch the One Show I'm afraid. Its like Pebble Mill moved to primetime. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

I quite like the one show, I wonder how long Chris is standing in for.
It is broadcast from London by the way not Birmingham.

I don't watch the One Show these days so that's not a problem.
Maybe I'll be able to listen to Drivetime again as surely he can't do both shows at the same time???

I agree Helen.
With Evans doing the One Show, surely he will be moved to the Breakfast Show- I feel sure this is what will happen.
Who will get the Drivetime Show then-I hope its Richard Allinson. |

Has it been said how long he is doing the One Show for and is Adrian Chiles giving up completely?
Maybe he can just take a sabbatical from R2..........

Will The One Show be moved to 7.30pm to fit in with CE drive show? Or he could move the show to TV centre? When does CE host the One Show?
I think Adrian Chiles will leave the show to pursure other projects and Chris to take over Brekkie, or Ken Bruce will move to breakkie and CE to take over mid mornings? |

Mark,
In case you've forgotten Ken Bruce did Terry's slot around 85 ish when he first came to R2 so I doubt he'd move back.
Chris can't do both at the same time, one or both shows would suffer.
I can't see BBC1 moving it's prime early evening show and changing the Eastenders time slot................ Can you, in all honesty?

Thats true Helen,
Anyway it won't be until next year when Chris is covering!!
Radio Today:
BBC Radio 2 presenter Chris Evans is making a return to television after a three year break to cover Adrian Chiles on the BBC's One Show.
BBC1 controller Jay Hunt revealed the hiring at the Edinburgh TV festival on Friday: "He's a very different broadcaster now if you listen to his Radio 2 show. The One Show is a magazine show with light journalistic items and that's absolutely something Chris can do."
His last regular television work was OFI Sunday for ITV in 2005, six months after his first appearance on Radio 2 where he now hosts the drivetime show. OFI was canceled after just five shows.
He will cover for Chiles next year. |

This is probably an unpopular opinion but I think Dermot O'Leary should be given the Drivetime gig. _________________

Chiles is sticking with The One Show. He turned down a huge offer from ITV so he could stay. |

Evans doing One Show is fine.
Evans doing Five Shows is too much.
Which day do I remember to take CD's with me? |

You never know... surely Dermot's peaked with X Factor, and unless he gets lucky with a US tv deal, he might well be looking for other stuff to do. But for the meantime, I'm guessing he's happy with Saturdays. |

Very dangerous, hence the reason I always switch off when Allinson is on _________________ Chris Evans' Breakfast - doesn't sound quite as good as Chris Evans' Drivetime but good nonetheless! |
