CN was standing in for Mo Dutta this morning.

Unusual to have a newsreader deputising for a presenter. Cover must be stretched right now.

Where was MD?

Ian.

Thanks for the heads up Ian.

I will listen to this via the Listen Again feature.

Where was Mo Dutta-don't know-does anyone really care about Dutta.

Mo is/was ill.

When I woke I thought .... gosh-odd time for the news... ...

he did really well though I thought.., he was quite calm and relaxed about the whole gig. BZ ("Bravo Zulu") to Charles.

I like Charles sense of humour-he seems a very genuine sort of guy.

I like Charles Nove too, I wish it would be his 'shift' when Johnnie does breakfast but it never is.

Who was driving the desk behind the scenes-I can't imagine he has the skills to do this himself.

Yes he was Toggy. I think it was a late night show a long time ago.

He was. The station was called BBC Radio 2. The show was Nightride.

Apparently he got an urgent call from the BBC duty people circa 1.30 AM
asking if he was available. MD had cried off sick.I guess they tried Pete Mitchell and Tim Smith without success. Before returning to the Beeb Charles Nove was a presenter on other stations - I recall hearing him on Magic 105.4 ( Or whatever it was called previously) .

Heavens above Mark, you've had him every evening this week on Drivietime and he's doing Steve Wright on Monday. Very Happy

Give the guy a break!

Charles has presented a show before. See http://www.r2ok.co.uk/R2_timeline.htm And scroll down to 1981/2, though that would have been in the old studios. I believe Charles has worked the new studio controls when the regular presenters have been away on outside broadcasts (like Ken Bruce on the QE2 a year or two ago)

Maybe he was busy somewhere else? Does he do corporate work, gigs, parties, paper rounds? Laughing

When I was working in London he was on in the afternoon on Jazz FM. I've noticed he's often mentioned when Ken Bruce or Terry Wogan is doing the show from somewhere different, so maybe he's in charge of keeping it all working back in Blighty?

Charles drives the desk himself. He's the technical operator when Wogan and Bruce are out on Eurovision etc. Magic was called Melody before the change. Anyway I do think some people have been asking for the older guys to return to the station occasionally. As Charles did once present on Radio 2. Maybe he will get a gig?
