Anyone tune into last night's show.
We did in our household, as my wife, is a fan of Jonathan Ross, who was guesting on the show.
Quite witty in parts but is the swearing really necessary-personally I don't mind swearing on the TV-it does not bother but somehow hearing swearing on the radio is horrible/totally unnecessary imho.
What do others think?

I don't like to hear it on either. It's totally unnecessary, adds nothing to what you're saying other than to show that you know some rather unpleasant words.
Comedians and other people in the media swear for effect and what they think will get them a cheap laugh. In fact, for me, the reverse applies - for example I think Billy Connolly was far funnier when he didn't include F in every sentence. _________________ Ron |

Without wishing to sound prudish, as I have been known to curse in real life when driven to it, and I can forgive the occasional slip up on air if the presenter wasn't deliberately setting out to be offensive or isn't usually so (e.g. left the mic on in error) But I don't want to be sworn at incessantly on TV or radio. Sadly our Lesley seems to be dragging Radio 2 & 6 music into the gutter by signing up such people. Last night I was feeling under the weather so went up the wooden hill early, imagine how fed up I was feeling when I felt I couldn't switch on my bedside radio because of that man, and it was still a long wait till Bob Harris came on. Thanks Lesley - NOT! _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack.

I've said this on numerous occasions in the past about Russell.
I don't mind him at all but the swearing really isn't necessary. He should realise this.
But then again, he's a millionaire and I'm not. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

Yes, there's definitely wit and intelligence in Brand. It's just a pity it is buried under such a pile of profanity and filth. Some of his streams of consciousness are slightly reminiscent of Kenneth Williams doing one of his rants. But Williams didn't need to swear to get his point across. |

I don't listen too this trash as it doesn't belong to Radio 2. Luckly those who have the privilege it's left too Saturday night. Glad Bob Harris can lift the station after it's been tarnished with this joker. |

Andrew Sachs has asked Lesley Douglas to investigate. I do think Russell Brand show should be removed now? That is my personal view. |

I hope this is one slip-up too many for Lesley Douglas and her head does end up rolling, along with Russell Brand's and Jonathan Ross' if they are indeed found guilty (though it must be remembered that it was Jim Moir who signed up Ross) I think you have to ask what is the matter with that woman? What makes her sign up idiots like Brand & George Lamb (he who upset Ray Davies of The Kinks over on 6 music, amongst others) when there are plenty of proper DJs out there who might like to break into the big time? _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

It bad to swear on the Radio whether it's after 9pm on a Saturday Night. Swearing on someones Answer Phone is childish and not really funny. It's a disgrace and Brand should be removed from Radio 2.
Jonathan Ross should have known better being sucked into "Brands" ( I could have used worse words ) " so called pranks" |

I was going to say unbelievable but it's not really is it? it's just about what we've come to expect from this pair of grossly overpaid fops.
I'd like to see the BBC show some guts and sack the pair of them over what most people would regard as disgraceful schoolboy antics, possibly illegal at that. ( good reason to reduce their payroll... eh Lesley? )
To add fuel to the fire, I was pretty angry listening to JR's radio show yesterday when French and Saunders were his guests.
I think it was Dawn French who said "don't be a "C" "U" "N"... Jonathon intervened at that point.
Is this the level of entertainment we should expect from the BBC?
It should be unbelievable... _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

If you listen to the first part of Brands Saturday show, just gone, he has given a WEAK' apology. I just heard that on BBC Radio 2 news, so I had to hear it for myself. He really didn't sound like he had done wrong, blaming the Mail for printing what had happened. |

I can't see any of them getting banged up? Although some people would like to see this? I just wish the BBC wouldn't try a wrap some up in cotton wool. |

It's Ross I'm most annoyed by. We expect this sort of thing from Brand, but Rossy should know better. They should both be suspended, but I doubt that'll happen (I bet if even Wogan did such a thing he wouldn't get away with it). |

I don't particularly want either of them banged up but they need to be shown without any doubt that their behaviour was totally unacceptable. They should each suffer a long period of suspension--I don't give a stuff what this might do to the ratings--and the executive who approved this should be subject to disciplinary action. A platitudinous apology to Mr Sachs, unaccompanied by the actions referred to above, is utterly inadequate.

This made the One O’clock news on telly. For me there are two issues with this. The first is the phone calls themselves;- now, I’m no Mary Whitehouse, but nobody really wants to listen to that sort of thing on their answer-phone: it’s the sort of thing that is maybe a little funny, in a schoolboy after half a can of larger, prankish, kind of way at the time, but in the cold light of day, it’s the headmistress’s office that gets the last laugh. Bend over boys. Secondly, whilst the presenters made the calls, it is difficult, near impossible, to blame them for the programme going out- lots of pre-recorded programmes are filled with filth, which is edited out for broadcast- so I wonder perhaps, if Radio 2 have fallen foul of their annoying habit of pretending that pre-recorded shows are being broadcast live? There may have been insufficient material to fill the slot, had they have edited out the bad bits though-it was Russell Brand after all: end to end music anyone?
I don’t think an apology on its own is good enough- let’s have some re-runs of Fawlty Towers on Saturday nights as well. |

I noticed Dermot's show this Saturday made a big deal of being recorded, even including messages from Steve Wright and Jeremy Vine. Which they've never done before... |

Did anyone listen to the show? It's a shame that this story broke AFTER the show was removed from listen again, so I'm finding it hard to make an opinion on this. If the events happened as reported then it is an outrage - not for any offences of broadcasting but for the very grave offence of haranguing a man with indecent comments regarding his grand-daughter.
However, it depends on the relationship that Brand has with Sachs. As Sachs was due to appear on the show, I wonder if they have met before and/or developed a friendship? Brand may have felt that Sachs would have 'enjoyed the joke' as unfunny as it was. He evidently showed a mis-judgement on this but I guess it may go some way to explaining what the hell he was thinking.
If Brand and Sachs don't even have a working relationship, then it beggars belief how this man continues to be allowed two hours of broadcasting space on Radio 2. As for Ross, a man of whom I'm a big admirer, I expect a grave and sincere apology from him. He's made mistakes before and apologised for them, I just hope he shows his self-respect (which I suspect he does have beneath his showman's persona) and admits that his behaviour was both a mistake and not even one that you could call comedy. |

Serious editorial failing within Radio 2. They were allowed to let the show go to air two days prior to the pre- record after knowing what was in the show, then someone needs to be called into account? |

I've always had a low opinion of Brand, a talentless lowlife whose reputation is based around sleaze and shock tactics.I fail to see why the BBC feel the need to employ such people, his whole persona seems to revolve around the gutter and seeks to appeal to the lowest common denomenator, surely not the type of image the BBC should be cultivating.
Brand's contract should be ended immediately and Jonathan Ross should at the very least be given a severe warning regarding his future conduct.
Ross is an able broadcaster but mustn't be allowed to think that he can get away with anything and everything. _________________ The wheel keeps on turning...

If anyone want's to see what all the fuss is about, there's a transcript of it here: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/media/tv-radio/a-transcript-of-brands-prank-call-975124.html I got the link from the 6 music message board. Yes, it's been discussed over there too, along with their own villain-of-the-piece, one George Lamb, who is as bad as Brand in his own way. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

So I just put myself through 10 minutes of torture and listened to the clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7IHJ66wj9g
It was unfunny and crass and only made me laugh once when Ross referenced Fawlty Towers with 'don't mention the war'...however, it really wasn't as bad as I expected. I can understand why Sachs was offended but no serious offence took place here surely.
Course, here's another thought, is there a reason other than Sachs' complaint that this had made the news? The powers that be might have had enough of them afterall...

Same here and Ofcom. I'm calling for them to be suspended from there shows. This would be stupid if they are on Radio 2 this Saturday?
The complaints are rising to about 500,000. The House Of Commons are getting involved calling for their contracts to be reviewed!!! Ofcom are investigating, but looks like the Police will be the last result, unless someone complains to them? |
