I noticed the mail said this Aitch :
Insiders told the Daily Mail that rank-and-file staff had been feeling mutinous at the prospect of a junior employee being used as a scapegoat.
I totally agree with this, at first I thought the Producer/Editor should take responsibility, but then I realised it was the equivalent of expecting Becqui to do that and that it wasn't a live show. That really bought it home to me, you and I both know the big difference between the rank and file and the big presenters/editors and obviously Lesley Douglas.
As a mum and finding out Nic Phelps went to QM (not that it influenced my decision as such) it just doesn't seem fair, but it bought it home to me. I'm really surprised how people seem happy to use some junior employee as a scapegoat in order to protect the likes of Ross & Brand and even LD.
I respect LD for what she has done and I think in light of what Gambo has said, she did allow Brand to be a lose cannon. Do people really believe that some young lad could tell Brand or Ross what to do?! They really must be deluded if they think that. |

It was just confirmed on the R2 7pm News Aitch in case you didn't hear it that she was aware of it and it was her decision. For once I didn't hear wrong makes a change |

Yes B, I've just got to the end of the interview and he then said she was aware of the key contents of the programme. Strange he said differently earlier. I didn't think he came over particularly well.
As you know R2 is verboten in our house between 5 and 7 ( ) so I didn't hear the news.

I didn't hear the first part of the interview I was on my way back from IKEA and picked up the last 10 minutes or so
At least we are clear, she did know and made the decision to air the programme.
Wonder why they took so long to let my latest post on the BBC but it went through, so suspected it probably was right. |

I always knew that it had been recorded which was why I said it would have been bad enough had it gone out live, but that it was allowed to go out as a pre-record was an absolute disgrace.
I never blamed the young producer but I think someone like Brand and Ross should have had someone with a bit more experience who could keep them in check (could anyone you may well ask?). If LD knew it's right she went.

I guess that is the issue isn't it Aitch how can you get someone able to deal with them? Let alone a lad fresh from Uni?
I think that is the one good thing that has come out of this that the BBC have recognised that "personalities" should not rule the day and put ordinary employees in compromising situations. Nic clearly followed procedures filled in the forms and eventually it ended up on LD's desk. Given the latest news at 10pm where they have now said she clearly knew the contents of the show and it was her decision to air it. Justice has been done, the people involved paided the price and no one was thankfully a scapegoat.
For me the issue remains that these people are overpaid out of taxpayers money in the first place and it is totally unacceptable. We have become a culture of overpaying the wrong people for the wrong tasks in life and that is very sad.
I think it has been a week for democracy, not world shattering and far more important things are clearly going on in the world but it demonstrates that tax payers can change what happens in their world. For me that only has to be a good thing and we should see that as a positive step forward.
Complain, email your MP or your councillor or the BBC the more people that do that the better.

I still don't get why Mark Thompson accepted Lesley Douglas's resignation if he has "left the door open for her return". Quite a few Radio 2 presenters, and personnel, are quite upset with Lesley's departure. She did a wonderful job Controlling Radio 2.
I wonder if she will be persuaded to return to her former post? |

6 Music had problems last year with the phone scandal and that was under Lesley Douglas watch. She also sanctioned the Brand and Ross pre-record. Twice in a year, so it was best she left to clear the press hounding her why she's still at the station?
I can't see her returning to Radio 2, but why leave the BBC altogether? |

Lesley Douglas could not vet every single programme by herself on Radio 2 and 6 Music. |

Shame Paul Gambaccini didn't reveal more, rather than leaving us out in the dark. |

That's what she delegates others to do, and if they fail, she takes the rap as their manager.
Tough.... but it goes with the territory. |

I agree.
Silly woman though, if she can't vet every programme she could at least try to vet all the risky programmes, and there were only two of those each week. I mean if she loved Ross and Brand so much did she not actually want to HEAR THEIR SHOWS? You know, like, have a listen and a laugh?
Really, I wonder if she really is a fan of Radio 2, seems to me like she never listens to the station

Maybe she liked to listen to the shows on broadcast? Perhaps she preferred the podcast as it wasn't spoiled by music. |

Well the Director General admitted that she had not listened to that one on the JV Show on Friday.

Ian, I think you'll find Brand's broadcast show wasn't 'spoiled by music' either... due to the distinct lack of it |

Anyone mentioned Andy Davis? He's going to be out of pocket, but saving money flying over from Spain? If he never came back Ross will have to practice how to control the desk? |

No I was thinking of him though....especially being just married with a young son. Mind you, perhaps he's been given an extended holiday on pay? Surely they can't 'punish' Andy for something that happened on someone else's show. Aside from Andy though, there must be quite a few people who have been put out of jobs due to Brand's resignation and Ross' suspension. |

I mentioned this on the other thread it sure is confusing at the moment
I like Andy and I think the BBC said they would honour their obligations to other staff who should not be out of pocket over it.

Looks as though Ross is definetly returning to Radio 2 in his old slot-more's the pity. |

I didn't like Andy's cackling at JR so I stopped listening to the show on Saturday mornings. On the TV side of things at least we are spared '4 Poofs and a piano' for a few months! JR can do a reasonable show his Film 2008 programme so he needs to 'wise up' and cut out the lewdness with female guests and most of all to grow up, as he is pushing fifty! Or alternatively go onto the Comedy Club circuit and see how many buy tickets to see him. |
