Clarkson seems to speak out a lot of time. He's another heavy weight at the BBC and thinks he above the law. Maybe he will get 12 weeks suspension?
Top Gear is always controversial. I remember when they lit up cigars in front of the audience in the hanger as the smoking ban kicked in, and got loads of complaints. |

Clarkson is a crashing bore. He was easy meat for Harry Enfield and Paul Whitehouse on their recent TV show in the sketch called 'Clarkson's Island.' |

Bad taste but nothing like as bad as Brand/Ross.
The Daily Wail won't be happy until we are all watching twee comedy like My family and last of the summer wine.
They were having a go at Frankie Boyle last week for a joke he made on Mock the Week... nearly 2 years ago! Pathetic. |

We watched Top Gear, I remember saying to hubby at the time ... that was a bit in bad taste... Sarah K mentioned it this morning saying the beeb had, had 200 complaints, but some truck drivers phoned to say it was funny - so that's ok then. I wonder how many murdered prostitutes phoned in to offer their support for Clarkson's brand of humour? |

I do think people need to lighten up a bit, as I said the joke was in poor taste but it was just a joke. It was just a small throwaway remark in what I thought was quite an informative/interesting/funny article about lorry driving.
Really people are so easily offended these days, Top gear is one of those programs you either like or not. I honestly believe some people just watch it to find something to be offended about. |

I don't think it was a throwaway remark, more like a premeditated offensive remark.
We've had someone murdered in our family, ok not a prostitute, but a young man, and I can't imagine the circumstances of his death featuring in a joke so I don't think Yorkshire or Ipswich prostitutes deserve it either.

It's an old joke anyway, it's been doing the rounds in Viz magazine for a number of years. |

Well I suppose I can't complain about Viz ( I remember it years ago e.g. Two Fat Slags) but this Clarkson episode is just another example of inappropriate use of licence-payers money paying Clarkson to say such a thing
Ofcom says,
2.3 In applying generally accepted standards broadcasters must ensure that material which may cause offence is justified by the context
Just because the subject is truckers is no excuse to joke about two infamous truckers who murdered prostitutes

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/3403362/Top-Gears-Morse-code-attack-on-Strictly-Come-Dancing.html
Quote: | Motoring programme Top Gear broadcast secret Morse code messages mocking BBC rival Strictly Come Dancing, it has been claimed.
The dot-dash messages were transmitted as the show's mystery racing driver The Stig tested a Lamborghini during last week's episode on BBC2.
One spelt out: "Strictly Come Dancing is crap", a jibe at the Bruce Forsyth-hosted ballroom dancing competition that is broadcast on BBC1 during Top Gear's Sunday evening slot. |
Insulting prostitutes, lorry drivers and ballroom dancers all in one show, eh? _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

perhaps those "good ol' boys" should have caught up with him after all.
I want to like him but for me, he's not far behind Mr. Ross sometimes... particularly his disregard for animals
Strictly Come Dancing is one of the best shows around at the moment for me at least, and Brucie is King! _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

See? this is another example of crossing the line as far as I'm concerned..
Buzzcocks tonight - Phil Jupitas talking about Cliff Richard.. " I wish he was dead"
Would you say that to his face fat boy? _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07
