|
|
Quote: | Gambaccini, who hosts a two-hour show on Radio 2 on Saturday evenings, last night told an audience at Oxford University – which included the BBC's director of audio and music, Tim Davie – that Moyles should go following a series of controversial statements on his breakfast show. |

From that article it looks like Moyles made a joke that suggested Auschwitz has become a bit of a tourist attraction rather than an important piece of history. Isn't that a good point? Something to debate, at least, and not a sackable offence. |

Why? It's quite a valid observation even if he's a bit of a nobhead these days. |

I don't think was trying to offend with the Auschwitz remark, I think he did have a point. He did go on to say how good he thought Jerry Springer's Who do you think you are was which involved him visiting there.
He may be a prick but he dosen't deserve to be sacked or suspended, it's getting to the point where you can't say anything at all without someone getting up in arms over it.
Gambo must be having a grumpy phase. |

IMO Moyles gets a bit of a raw deal.Hes not nearly as offensive as people imagine, not as bad as he was a few years ago anyway. He's definately not racist or homophobic. Its just his sense of humour that might be misunderstood.Hes way more popular than any other dj on radio one and will become the longest ever presenetr of the radio one breakfast show in september. There must be a good reason for that |

Yeah there is. It's such a poor station, no decent DJ wants to do it. |

Maybe his words should have been chosen more careful. I think Paul is trying to say it's OK for some broadcasters too speak out of tone and some get away with it. Maybe more action should have been taken than a slap on the hand. |

How does one "speak out of tone"?
Sounds a bit "Abigail's Party" to me _________________ MiS |

Surely that's the whole point of Moyles - asking him to choose his words with more care whilst broadcasting live is a bit like asking the Pope to convert to Islam. It just doesn't come with the package. He is who is he is, period. He's hired by the Beeb because (a) he still pulls in an audience and (b) he gets the station press coverage. After all, we're talking about it here and now aren't we? Something's worked. He's just playing the media game and by posting comments here we're all playing the game as well. Life goes on. |

I know there was not many complaints at the time. Gambo is entitled to give his point of view. However should he use his position to do so, or should his opinion be private? |

Why should it be private? He's a freelancer who isn't handcuffed to the Beeb and he was delivering a speech at a private engagement. |

He does. I was just trying to ask some people views. I hope he's not leaving the BBC. |

I agree with Gambo. Making a crass "joke" about Aushwitz is appalling & typical of Moyles. He should be sacked |

I don't think that, in the context as described, it was a crass joke about Aushwitz. That's the point. I think the point he was making was a valid one - even though I disagree with it. It's certainly not a sackable offence. |
