Interesting to see that John McCarthy--ex-hostage in Beirut--is covering for Aled on GMS this coming Sunday, rather than usual stand-in Roger Royle.
No reason why they shouldn't try someone new, of course, but I wonder whether RR isn't available or whether they feel that he now appeals to an audience that maybe isn't plentiful any more ie that which tuned in way back in the 80s, when he was the programme's regular presenter.

That's good news Ian - I might be tempted to listen as I like JM, he has a good radio voice. Have to say I normally find GMS rather too sanctimonious. _________________ MiS |

On Pause for Thought this morning, RR had a bit to say re a hospital outpatient visit, so maybe he's cutting back on commitments for a while on health grounds.

John McCarthy wasn't bad for a first time but doesn't as yet come over as a natural presenter, sounding stilted at times. But he should be allowed another go at an opportune time if he would like it.
