"A complex broad-based beast"- I like that. This chap speaks right from my big book of boardroom banter. Love it!
He's rather cute too. |

Yeah, hardly anything new in that interview, and I can only trust that he keeps true to his word with maintaining as broad a base as possible. And to be fair, there wasn't much else he could say when asked about Sir Tel retiring, except to stay! |

I was really hoping he would do something about the playlist.
To have an "A" list of about 6 records which are constantly repeated is a radio crime in my book.
How many times has that Empire Of The Sun record been played for example.
Does anyone think the BBC Trust review will force them to change anything? |

The whole playlist thing needs sweeping away. A complete turn-off , even if you like a track you get to hate it after hearing it ad nauseum _________________ MiS |

Agree. Wasn't it 5 or so years ago that R2 was being applauded for its diverse, album-tracks playlist? I do feel it has crept slightly more towards standard playlists of commercial/R1 territory.
On another note, the fact that 6music has a playlist at all surely defies the point of its existence. |

I have a love-hate relationship with playlists. When you get some really cracking records on there that get better with each new listen, hearing them with a regularity across the day works well for providing that sense of familiarity and excitement about them (for my tastes, recent stuff that has struck a chord with me has been The Killers' and Pet Shop Boys' new stuff and the Fleet Foxes).
Of course, there is a lot of chaff in with that wheat - and that's where the irritation will arise (that and everyone's taste is different). But I do believe that the playlist is important to give a station a 'feel'. Saying that I do believe the current 'feel' of radio 2 is not that different from other stations and perhaps that needs to be looked at - but as for dumping the playlist, I cry a definite no to that option. |

If they must keep the playlist why not have just one "B" list with all the songs in it.
At the moment you have the "A" list songs which are completely overplayed and the "C" list songs which are rarely if ever heard.
Remember the old Radio 2 identity:- "Different every time" |
