Don't know if anyone else has put this in a thread, but lately I have been listening a lot to Gold on DAB which includes the likes of David Kid jensen and the wonderfully named Dean Martin in its schedule.
I had become a regular listener to Smooth Radio which i still dip into from time to time, but quite frankly I got bored with the every five minutes "love life love music" catchphrase.
Gold plays, I find, all the songs and singers I would expect to hear, and a few I would not expect to hear, and I generally find it very entertaining listening.
At the moment though I am listening online to the new Pennine FM from Huddersfield. A friend of mine has a show on there and I like to support him.

David Jensen also does a show on Sunday mornings on Planet Rock, which is really good listening (especially bearing the Radio 2 alternatives). _________________ (signature and avatar removed, violated forum Rule 2.) |

Sadly about ten days after I wrote the post two above this one, the new Pennine FM went off the air, due I believe to financial problems and leaving people quite simply without jobs. I don't know what will happen with the Huddersfield and Kirklees licence now, but my friend will next be heard on Ridings FM in Wakefield.

I don't mind Gold but the adverts get a bit much after a while. Also they seem only have about 20 records
It's nice to hear David Jensen though, always liked him. |

I used to listen to Gold as an alternative to the gagged, pre-recorded and very rich Teflon coated Woss but now it's almost always 1260 KYA for non stop Golden Oldies and a lot I haven't heard before from the USA.
Mind you, I liked to hear "The Kid" too... _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

I've always liked David Jensen and his show on Planet Rock is (as I mentioned above) very good. He was good mates with John Peel on Radio One and I always liked it when he deputised for Peely. I have a recording of the Saturday show he did for a while on R1 from the mid-70s and although it was nothing special at the time it's of such a high standard compared to the monotonous and patronising fodder we're subjected to on the majority of stations these days - mostly the commercial ones! _________________ (signature and avatar removed, violated forum Rule 2.) |

David Kid Jensen was also good presenting the Pepsi Chart on Capital Radio all those years ago. |

Funny that Toggy, I was listening to Gold too and was pleasantly surprised to hear Simon Bates.. his deep voice still sounding as good as ever over the radio I thought. Some of the squawky, mumbling, excitable new recruits at Radio 2 should listen and learn.. maybe..?
I liked him and will listen again if he's on! _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

According to their website he has joined the station as a regular presenter of the Sunday morning show so that's good.
I've always liked him, often listen to him on Classic FM, I love his voice. |

Aren't Simon Bates and Matthew Bannister good mates? _________________ (signature and avatar removed, violated forum Rule 2.) |
