Hi Rach - what are you not sure about? Had a quick scan of the link, looks like a potted extract from Ken's autobiog. I'd like to read the whole book. _________________ MiS |

As Sunday exposés/appetisers of autobiographies go it sounds rather tame. It also reads as though he's left a lot of the work to a ghost writer. _________________ Ron |

Hi MiS , you know when you have a clear idea in your mind, how a person is? Well, the autobiog extract doesn't stack up with my image of KB: not in a shocking way, more disappointing I guess. It's like it has been written by someone much younger with emphasis on the things a young chap might identify with. To be fair it is about the early part of his life but even so, it feels like a young person looking up with admiration of the behaviour of a person much older, than it perhaps should be, an older person looking back, pointing out why that was not really the best way forward. |

Blame the Ghost Writer? I think he's just expressing how it is. At the end of the day we don't know the full content of the book. |

Rachel, I expect it's been targetted at the "yoof" market! I'm sure the book as a whole will make a good read. _________________ MiS |

Assuming that this excerpt hasn't been subbed too much at the Mail (I wouldn't put it past them - I hate that paper), it looks to me like Ken has actually compiled audio recordings from which a transcription was made, and then tidied-up by a copywriter with Ken's approval. The sentences and paragraphs are short and very "matter of fact" and it doesn't flow very easily, which doesn't seem that characteristic of the man himself - but who knows?
That said, I'm an avid reader of autobiographies and I look forward to reading this one. Whether it's as good as Johnnie Walker's only time will tell! _________________ (signature and avatar removed, violated forum Rule 2.) |

I think it has been subbed - it reads as if they've given the book to a school leaver who might have passed his GCSE English and told him to summarise it.
Considering how the Mail likes to make a mountain out of the smallest little foible our heroes may have, if that's the worst they can come up with for Ken then he doesn't have much to worry about. Then again, it won't make for a riveting read, although I'm sure it will be full of amusing wee anecdotes. _________________ Ron |

There is another article about Ken in the Wail today, clearly the book is being serialised. At this rate there will be no need to buy it! |

I'll skip the rancid rag that is the Wail and wait for the book! _________________ (signature and avatar removed, violated forum Rule 2.) |

I entirely agree. Why do people buy the appalling rubbish that masquerades as a newspaper?? _________________ MiS |

It's the only paper that has a crossword I can do without any help.
We get the Times also - I'm lucky if I get three or four of those clues. |
