What a splendid show today! Now playing Only love can break Your heart by Neil Young. the featured album is rumours 7 there's also been stuff by the Steve Miller Band & others

They should give him an extra show on Saturdays at 6 to replace that awful one

I agree. In fact, we should savour such good broadcasting while it lasts, because people of Johnnie's calibre are being sidelined by, er, others of more dubious talent.

JW's Sounds of the Seventies is an acute disappointment, since, apart from the odd week when he focuses on one artist or band, or has a special interview, nothing is played which you don't hear at any other time on Radio 2. (Yesterday Paul O'Grady, following him, played more interesting music)

In all honesty it is the one dispensible slot on a Sunday, in its present form anyway.

Heard it for first time thsi week. Disappointed, on the whole - Johnnie sounded flat. Much preferred Steve Harley's version. Why was he given the boot?

I don't listen that often, but heard this week's and really enjoyed it.

I've thought for a long time that the reason it doesn't work for me, like SOTS does, is because we still hear most of the songs almost every day.

I think SOTS works because we didn't have so many radio stations playing chart music back then so many of the songs were heard maybe once or twice only.

As far as I am concerned Johnnie Walker could read the ingredients list from a packet of cereal and I would still prefer to listen to him than most of the newer folks presenting on R2!

It could be the time slot as well, I don't know why they didn't leave it at the later time?

I would as well and it would be far more entertaining than a lot of the stuff on Radio 2 at present. To be honest JW is wasted on this show, I am fast coming to the conclusion that he is one of three decent broadcasters on the station and should be given much more airtime and freedom (like pirate JW) to express these skills

I think the best three are Johnnie Walker, Richard Allinson and Stuart Maconie. They know their music and don't talk all over it as some of the others do.

Chris Evans could learn a lot from Johnnie Walker.

To have the manners not to talk over the the music would be a good start.

I'll have to take your word for it Clive. As I've said before it isn't a personal dislike of Evans, just that he does my head in. But we are in agreement on Alan Carr, I couldn't stand two hours of that show either. As with Evans, the trailers are enough to convince me of that!
