Well, we went off to Cornwall on Friday as planned with our car full to bursting with "stuff". The drive down was fantastic, lovely sunshine and clear roads ( no snow or traffic on the roads). Going through Dartmoor and Bodmin Moor was like driving through Finland, a real winter wonderland, it was beautiful. The very West of Cornwall, our destination, was pretty much snowfree, so things looked good for our holiday. We arrived, unloaded all the "stuff" then moved the Central Heating switch to "On", the little green light came on but nothing else did, certainly no heat. A few phone calls later, we established, that the boiler had broken down last week, a spare part was order but would't arrive until Wednesday... hang on that's nearly a week away and it's minus 5 outside. Brrrrrrrrrr. So we went to Argos , bought some fan heaters ( they were sold out of most heaters). Some heat came from them but more heat was generated by the electric meter spinning around. We thougt we'd soldier on. Off to bed, inside a three seasons sleeping bag and under a 15 tog duvet, it was roasty toasty, until that is, morning arrived and I had to unzip. We quickley decided over a bacon sandwich and the latest weather report to head for home, so we loaded tthe car with "stuff" and repeated the drive in reverse. So back home now, we've postponed our holiday until the week after next. |

At least you had a safe journey in both directions. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

I'll echo that. Such a shame, but at least you managed a bacon sandwich - I hope you left a little bit for the hamster driving the electricity meter.
Nice of them to let you know about the heating _________________ Ron |
