This morning I have retuned the radio in the study to Heart. I just can't stand the prospect of another fortnight of Zoe Ball gabbling fit to bust through Ken Bruce's slot. As 7.00-9.30am is a definite no go area this means that for the next fortnight I can stay off Radio 2 every day until lunch time.

Come to think of it, I'm not so enamoured of JV these days, so might as well make that until 2.00pm. The SW show (although not too irritating, for me at least) is sounding a bit tired just now, so I could leave it until 5.00 at a push, rather than fiddle around with the tuner.

Since I definitely don't listen from 3.00pm on Saturdays (Dermot followed by that dreadful squawking/shrieking duo), it strikes me that maybe what used to be my station of choice, (where the only "must turn off" was Russell Brand) no longer fits the bill for me.

I could tolerate the odd irritant here and there, but these days the station seems to have more than its fair share of them, and on a regular basis. Starting every day with one was the catalyst for change for me. As R2 are now congratulating themselves on increasing the listening figures for the breakfast show, (conveniently ignoring the fact that the show is 20% longer than its predecessor) I wonder if they have also "had the nod" about the rest of the listening figures. It would be ironic if they have been so focussed on promoting and justifying the choice of Evans that they may well have failed to see they have hammered the last nail into the coffin of what used to be a good radio station.

As far as I'm concerned Zoe Ball in for Ken Bruce is an improvement as I never listen to him. I wouldn't say he was dire but definitely not a presenter I enjoy listening to, quite apart from the choice of music. I can see why Zoe annoys some people but I find her style of presenting fine - she seems very likeable.
I haven't listened to JV for years - the programme seemed to have turned into an audio version of the Daily Mail.
I listen to SW occasionally but don't think I could stand a whole programme, let alone listening on a daily basis.
Which leaves me, on a normal day, listening to SK on Listen Again, even if it means just the prevous days programme, then Simon Mayo and some Radcliffe and Maconie a couple of times a week.

Saturdays are a no-go zone in general after SOTS although unlike other people I can stand Dermot O'Leary for short periods. Surprised

. Alan Carr just makes me cringe. Oh for the good old days of Stuart Maconie or even RA!

I'm listening to Radio in general far less since the beginning of the year. Most of the day it's just a noise in the background instead of silence.

I won't have Zoe Ball on so I'll probably not tune in until Jeremy Vine. Steve I usually turn off after 15 mins or so, but will have it on if I'm driving short distances.

My internet radio is away being repaired just now and it's a miss as I could at least have listen again in the kitchen. I never thought I'd not enjoy listening to Radio 2, a sad thought.

These thoughts are replicated by many thousands of former avid R2 listeners. Do TPTB care? I doubt it.

It's not too late to resolve this - just get rid of Evans, Ball, Wright and most of Saturday's offering. Easy!!

I only hear Sarah K because my wife has to get up earlier than me and has the alarm-clock radio set for 6.30am. I then switch it off after Moira's dour news bulletin at 7.00am. I now don't listen to R2 at all for the rest of the day.

Sad really, innit?

Sarah K was even weirder this morning. She started off on her usual rambles (about whatever she feels inspired to ramble at that moment) but on at least two occasions didn't finish them........... very odd. I did chuckle!

I've started to switch on for the 8 or 9 o'clock news (and switch off immediately afterwards!) but can't help noticing how much Moira Stewart stumbles on her words in almost every bulletin. It's very noticeable.

Give me Fran Godfrey any day, she can even survive JV's guitar interruptions without batting an eyelid! He did apologise after she'd finished.

I accidentally caught the beginning of the CE show the other morning, well not actually the show, (I'm never that careless) but Moira Stewart's news slot. I thought she sounded almost like a parody of a newsreader - everything was over-enunciated, ridiculously contrived both in tone and phraseology.

I agree, give me Fran Godfrey any day.
