I'm just hoping he doesn't go into that "old time music hall" presenter delivery that he uses on CIN. Part of his attraction on the breakfast show was that gentle, humorous, throw away style. Not sure how that will translate to a live show. But looking forward to it nevertheless. Smile

I only tuned in at 12 Noon but it seems OK so far. Quite a good interview with Sir Ian. Glad to hear I missed Janet & John!
I was not a fan of the WUTW in its last months. This seems pleasant enough. not as OTT as the trailers had led me to fear

Now this is good radio. Listening to Wogan reminds me of a breakfast in the company of a self-deprecating, witty and generous host. The audience are a little bit jarring but I imagine we'll get used to it. Fine music, calm broadcasting, many laughs and no inane features.

A great show, I thought. Unlike Chris Evans' first breakfast outing, which was frantic and strained, this one sounded familiar and at ease from the word go.

I loved it. A unique balance of live performances, interviews, tracks, emails and audience. Production was a bit ropey in places, but the Meister was right back on form. Not sure that Janet & John succeeded that well, and the audience laughter felt a bit "workers playtime", but it was great nonetheless. Norah Jones was brilliant and enjoyed the different arrangement of "Come Away With Me".

Nice one Tel, looking forward to many more Sunday mornings. Now... what about a review of the papers too Wink

Blmey. Was Norah Jones on in the first hour? I tuned in at 12 & enjoyed it.
Maybe they can get rid of the Janet & John slot & have a newspaper review in its place?

I wonder if they could add a Wrong Bong slot?? Laughing

Not being a big Wogan fan, I dipped in and out and it sounded pretty good to me.. I agree there were a few iffy moments being live but it'll settle in no doubt.
I just wondered if it really needs an audience though? it would be a good show without all the laughter..

The new show was pretty good in the main; we enjoyed it. There were moments when I thought, gosh, this is a bit odd, the serious interviewing mixed with reading out of e-mails didn’t feel quite right but maybe that was because of the live audience laughing at Wogan’s actions before we heard the joke. The music was interesting; I think Wogan’s jokey assertion that we’ll be fed up with house-band before the end of the sixteen weeks is probably right, but having said that, it is Sunday, so perhaps sprouts, sharp knives and foot-tapping, hip-swinging rock ‘n’ roll isn’t such a good idea.

Sir Ian was fantastic!

The bits I heard sounded good, much better than that imposter who has sneaked in and taken over Breakfast! It all sounded a good mix to me and I will be tuning in on the Sundays that I don't have to work. Smile

I think when a Radio Show has a live audience they feel they've got to do something, so they laugh & make themselves heard
After all, they've shlepped all the way up there, they might as well enjoy themselves!
I enjoyed the show more than I enjoed WUTW, which I lost patience with in its last months.
I do miss the old Sunday supplement format of Parky/Ball, but the show wasn't bad.
a few quibles. Did he need to play the Kaiser Chiefs?
Live music was great-Jamie Cullum excelent. And who was the lass he dueted with? Good interview with Sir Ian.
I thought the show would be too brash & loud for me, but am pleased I gave it a chance.
My only suggestion would be make the discs played gell with the general tenor of the show & the live performermers
I may have an allergy to the Kaiser Chiefs!! Laughing

Well, I enjoyed it, but was it really good radio?

I was reminded at various times throughout the two hours, of Workers' Playtime, of Billy Cotton's Band Show, with John Marsh taking the role of Alan Breeze as presenter's stooge, and also of the reason why his tv chat show was never really a huge success - as an interviewer Terry Wogan is to Michael Parkinson what as an actor Matt LeBlanc is to Sir Ian McKellan.

Of course you don't need to be an ace interviewer when you have someone like him in the chair, but how crass to interrupt him half way through with the Kaiser Chiefs!!

Excellent music from Norah Jones and Jamie Cullum - how much of the programme's budget has been splurged on the opening show, I wonder? - but way too much contrast in the records played - no need to be up with the playlist (Killers, Girls Alound, which just grate), tailor it to the style of the guests (Ella, Peggy Lee, Mama Cass).

Sounded good to me, not sure about the necessity of having a star interview, but maybe that will be an occasional feature. Great to have Tel back, just a shame it's not M-F 7.30 -9.30 Crying or Very sad

All pretty much as I expected. Janet and John sounded slightly self-conscious in front of an audience. Sir Ian made a good opening guest. A good first show.

Big article in the Times yesterday about the new Wogan prog - referring to the Evans Breakfast show, it said "Evans has received warm reviews..."

Not in this neck of the woods it aint!! I can honestly say that I don't know a single person who likes it, or even treats it with ambivalence - everyone I've spoken to has said they all reach for the radio as soon as 7.00 comes.

Tell you what though, I'm not normally a John Barrowman fan but he can do a pretty good job with Copacabana......

Beth Neilson Chapman good as well. Hope she can make it to Newcastle for tonight's performance.

Wogan announced he's had 1 Million viewers so far watching the online video. Thank-god he's off air for a little while.

As an enduring Wogan listener, I've managed to stay tuned to the majority of the first 'series' but, at times, it's been a bit of a chore. The presence of an audience is no longer as much of a problem as it first was. However, as the series has gone on, he seems to have spent more and more time with the guests - most of whom haven't been particularly inspiring.

Two guests stood out for me - Sheila Hancock and Debbie Reynolds - but apart from that, I can't say I've been too impressed. Generally, I don't go in for chat shows as most people in showbiz trot out the same old stories about the road to stardom that frankly doesn't interest me. Wake up to Wogan was glorious as it revelled in the mundane. Yes, of course we knew that Sir Tel was a multi-millionaire and out-of-touch with ordinary life but his listeners brought the reality to the show. Wogan was a catalyst that brought the listeners alive, and there's just now enough of it in Weekend Wogan. He's playing the role of syncophant to the stars, and so after the first 30 minutes of each show - when the guests roll out - I find myself not listening.

It'll be interesting to see the listening figures, but I'm guessing that Wogan or the BBC won't be particularly interested by them. It's hardly a prime time slot. The truth is, I will continue to listen for those nostalgic glimpses of Wake up to Wogan that sometimes still crop up - but perhaps it won't be long until Wogan decides to bow out gracefully. If I could put a bet on, I'd say December 2011.

I think you're right about Wogan bowing out by the end of the year. I think this show was just a way of easing us into losing Wogan from the airwaves.

I've listened to most of them, there have been good bits in them all. Debbie Reynolds was one of the best. I also enjoyed Simply Red.

For me it's been more like a radio version of his TV show which I soon grew tired of. Radio from a studio is where he has always shone. Maybe they could offer him a weekend slot, I'm certain it would work.

It's not been compulsive listening for me. The audience thing still gets in the way for me, and I would much rather listen to him from the studio. But there have been some good interviews I agree. It won't be any hardship for me to have Michael Ball back, even though he can be a bit "luvvy" for my taste. I enjoyed the newspaper reviews and the film/tv review and look forward to having them back.

First time I've really listened to Terrys weekend show properly today and I enjoyed it.
Could have done without Coldplay, Train etc though, hear enough of that during the week.
I think Sunday should be a day without the playlist stuff.

I've been listening to Radio Caroline's special weekend of broadcasting from the MV Ross Revenge moored at Tilbury. Much better than the R2 Sunday fayre (with the exception of Johnnie, admittedly, but I'll catch that on iPlayer some other time).

It's only when you listen to the thousands of other stations out there that you realise just how bad Radio 2 has become.

On the whole the Wogan series hasn't done it for me. Maybe what works in the studio isn't so successful with an audience. So, a MISS from me.
