Starting tonight with a comedian that I loved ....Tommy Cooper ...he only had to stand there shrugging his shoulders, not saying a word, to have me helpless with laughter ....now that truly is a gift!....

Actually, it started on Monday with a documentary about the Carry Ons. No great revelations, but good fun. I shall have to catch the Tommy Cooper one on iPlayer - was it any good? |

I count myself as very lucky to have seen and enjoyed Tommy Cooper on the TV over his golden years.. it really is true isn't it; that he didn't have to say anything to make you beam.
The relatively few actual sketches in the programme prove this to be true for me, it's the little gaps between the set up lines where Tommy would pull those innocent faces only he could do.
For me, the gems of the show included the story of how Tommy would slip a Tea Bag into a Taxi drivers pocket saying "Have a drink on me" and describing his Magic Wand .." The little white tips are there.. to separate the ends from the middle" plus of course, his "Don't Jump Off Of The Roof Dad" still makes me laugh, specially the beginning talky bit.
I'd like to have met him, although I think I'd have suffered with jaw ache after a while from smiling so much! _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

And how many performers have that ability?..... I loved the joke about the woman who wanted to have a portrait done with imaginary jewellery on, tehara (tiara) etc just in case there was a second wife....and the classic Don't Jump off The Roof Dad....love it!!. |

Absolutely Becks.. in fact, I have two Tommy Cooper Birthday cards stuck on the wall in our "Tea Room" in our business here..
When you open one of them, you hear Tommy say "Not like that, like this" and then a joke..
"I was laying on my sunbed the other day.. when a little boy came along and said "This'll make you go brown.." rubbing it on my back.
What is it I said; Suntan oil?
"No" he said, " Gravy" Huh huh huh! _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

I thought from the trailers it started last saturday with the dire CW panel game
How they consider that in the same series of 'comedy' shows is beyond me |
