I cannot say i am a prolific listener to Radio 2 anymore because i do think its gone down the pan of late, but when i do listen to shows i like i must admit there is little else to hold a candle to Radio 2 (Radcliffe and Maconie, Russell Davies, MC Desmo are my particular favourites). So taking a different approach what do you still like about R2 |

The quality and professionalism of most of the presenters. Their loyalty to the BBC no matter where they get placed in the schedule and the lack of commercials. I can also pick up Radio 2 FM on any radio just by the quality of the signal! |

Really, really dislike -
Chris Evans
Don't like -
Ken Bruce (mostly the choice of music) Steve Wright, the late Jonathan Ross, the present Patrick Keilty, the future Graham Norton (but perhaps he will grow on me - didn't find him too awful when he covered for ? can't remember who)
Quite like -
Zoe Ball (OK I know I'm in the minority) the late lamented Sarah Kennedy, Elaine Paige, Paul O'Grady, Richard Allinson, Lyn Parsons, Aled Jones. Dale Winton
Really like -
Johnny Walker, Michael Ball, R & M (both together and individually, seems perverse to put two of the best R2 presenters in one programme) Simon Mayo (hurrah - I've got Drivetime back) Sir Terry (although not mad about the Sunday Live thingy)
I do listen to a lot of Radio 4 these days |

But they work so well together, it would be a crime to separate them. Double the talent = double the pleasure. |

For me it's. Switch off FAST!! Chris Evans, Steve Wright.
Tend not to listen to much. Jeremy Vine (Best description I ever read of this show was on another message board & it read 'Banter with the bigots' , Good Morning Sunday, Michael Ball / Terry Wogan, Elaine Page, Patrick Kielty, Jamie Cullum (not a Jazz fan).
The Likes. Janice Long, Alex Lester, Lynn Parsons (when she doesn't mention the 'ginger Whinger') Ken Bruce, The improved Drivetime, Paul Jones, Radcliffe&Maconie (I agree, both are good on their own as well) Johnnie Walker, Paul O'Grady, When I'm on holiday I like Sounds Of The 60s, Pick Of The Pops, Bob Harris. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

What i rate about Radio 2.
I like the broad range of music they feature, still a wider range than most radio stations And their ccommitment to specialist music shows.
As a country music fan, I have to go on the net to listen to mainstream country as Radio 2 have abandoned this genre., But otherwise some great shows- Gambo's america's greatest hits, Paul jones' Blues, Mike Hardings Folk, bob Harris' Americana & MC Desmo's great eclectic selection.
Most of these shows would never find a place on commercial radio. Even less some of the following gems- David Jacobs great excursions into old time music, & highly specialist shows such as The Organist Entertains & Listen to The Band.
Added to this some great music documentaries. I particuarly enjoyed Laurel Canyon & many others. No other readio station can rival this.
Even the Radio 2 playlist is quite good featuring a range of music. A pity many of the day time presenters don't quite cut it |

Why can't they hold an X factor to find new radio presenters?
Many at the moment are sons off or daughters off former presenters

There are plenty of good presenters out there - many of them giving their services free on local and community radio and also online. The problem is not the lack of skills - it's the lack of imagination and the current "play it safe at all costs" attitude of the BBC heirarchy. |
