The government have backed plans for a new high speed rail link between Manchester & Leeds. I wonder if the whistle will be blown on this one.

I think people should be less cynical and should simply wait and see
The Government has suspended progress on certain projects but has not yet said any will definitely be scrapped
Apparently George Osbourne has now strongly hinted that the second Mersey crossing will get the go ahead and I am sure the Manchester Leeds rail link has every chance of getting completed
The dire state of the public finance inherited from the previous Government caused eveything to be suspended but that doesn't mean that sensible and realistic projects won't go ahead if they can be reasonably afforded |

They are still going ahead with the multi-billion train line so folks can get from London to Brum in 45 mins.
It currently takes 90 mins.
Eh, so only saving 45mins.
Multi-billion?
And how often do you think the super-train WILL do the journey in 45mins.
There's a lot of leaves in Oxfordshire and Warwickshire.
Some beautiful towns and villages will be virtually destroyed by a high-speed rail - i.e. the residents will NOT benefit.
Who benefits? London and Brum businesses. _________________ -

Yes John I know there is a great deal of opposition to this project including several local MPs one of whom I think is a Cabinet Minister
Is it Cheryl Gillam the Welsh Secretary I am thinking of?
If I was making the decision I would probably take the view that scrapping an unpopular project like this was a win win situation as not only would the decision be popular but it would also save money which would then enable a more popular scheme to go ahead |
