I just had a phone call from someone trying to sell me something from 3 network. I told him has he got a home to go too trying to sell me something at nearly 6pm on a Saturday evening. He ask me what I said then I repeated it and he cut me off Laughing Shame...

Do anyone else get these calls at some strange times of day and night?

What you do is try to sell *them* something, or ask for their own home phone number. When they ask why, tell them it's because you're going to ring them at home tomorrow night at 8pm to sell them something. Most soon get the message.

Alternatively, just put the phone down on them before they've finished their spiel. Rude, but necessary.

After the third time Lloyds Bank's call centre phoned me after I'd requested in writing that they stopped, I asked them to put a note on my file saying that if they ever rang again, I would close my account and move to a different bank. That was a year ago, and I haven't had a call since. Funny, that.

I've had something similar from 3. I ask if they know my details, if they don't, I suggest that they get their act together before they ring me again. At this stage they usually put the phone down

Best thing is to register with the Telephone Preference Service and/or BT Privacy. It does cut out most cold calls (unless they get round it by saying they are doing 'market research'...) but not unfortunately those Twisted Evil Evil or Very Mad Mad Twisted Evil Evil or Very Mad Mad Twisted Evil random computer diallers.

I've now set up different ring tones for friends and family and for unrecognised numbers so I at least can decide whether or not to even get up off me chair! Smile

We also have caller ID so if they withhold their number I don't want to talk to them and just let them ring unanswered!

There's a mail version of that as well, IIRC - stops some of the junk mail coming through the door and going straight into the recycle box.

Likewise - when 'Withheld' or 'International' comes up on the Caller ID, I don't bother answering.

Yes ask them for their number and tell them you will call them back.

Or ask for their home number as obviously they wont mind if you call them at home when they are having their dinner.

Or just tell them to hang on a minute while you do something and then put the phone down and leave them "on hold"

This wasn't from a call centre but a couple of young girls who when I answered, effed and blinded until I interrupted them and told them I was putting the phone down. I immediately rang 1471, got their number and rang them back. When I told them that they had just rung and abused me I said I would be ringing back when their parents were home to tell them what happened! There was a hushed silence and I replaced the receiver. Needless to say I didn't ring their parents as perhaps they'd learned their lesson. I didn't tell them that if they don't want their calls traced they should put 141 infront of the number they are dialling!

Didn't it occur to you that he might have been calling from the Far East using VOIP?

Ella,
so what? Do you think we should express sympathy for nuisance callers just because it may be 11am in their time zone? I dont think so.
