I've just started a new job running a theatre. Previously, I've been a volunteer running a different venue and specialising in comedy because that's what I know.
But this new place, Blackburn Thwaites Empire Theatre, has plenty of music - mostly Tribute Acts.
We've got regular Elvis and Meat Loaf but I wondered what people here want from a Tribute show in a theatre? Authentic sound? Look right? And does anyone know of any good ones - there seem to be a million Beatles out there! |

I reckon that anyone who really wants to pay money to see a tribute act, rather than the real thing (assuming the real things are still alive), is determined to enjoy and have a good time.
I've only had experience of the various tribute bands which appear at Butlin's 70s weekends in November, and usually they've been better than a lot of the "real" ones they book.
Personally, the sound's the thing for me - sound alike, play live (rather than backing tracks) and good PA sound quality. Whether they look the spitting image is secondary, in most cases costume and make-up is sufficient.
T Rextasy, Bootleg Beatles, Rolling Clones, Heart Of Glass, Talon and Illegal Eagles, Kennie Simon as Errol Brown, too many Queen tribute bands to remember, all pretty good. _________________ Ron |

Thanks for the reply. I'd love to get the Bootleg Beatles but I suspect they're a bit out of my league.

Now, this is funny. I did try a U-2 tribute band last year and had to cancel as it sold just 7 tickets. I think that's partly down to the fact that if a U-2 fan really wants to see the band they can still do so. |

I saw the Cavern Beatles a couple of years back and they were excellent - despite a poor turnout (which was down to outside factors beyond the control of them and the organisers). Flash Harry is a great Queen tribute though it seems that they'll have to cut back on their shows now with frontman Harry Hamilton due to stand in the upcoming elections here in NI!
As for Elvis - there's no need for tribute acts as the man himself has just started a European tour some 32 years after his death!

Apologies for resurrecting an old thread, but I felt I had to mention the Counterfeit Stones, a Rolling Stones tribute band I saw last year. It was a great night out, not just for the music, which was excellent and had people up dancing in the aisles, but the costumes and comedy were great as well. |

I saw a Beatles tribute band (Bootleg Beatles?) earlier this year. They were pretty good musically. However, what really disappointed me was their dress sense.
They started off doing (far too much) Please Please Me stuff dressed in the grey suits and winklepickers, eventually moving on to the later 60s and doing songs like Hey Jude and I Am The Walrus, still dressed in that ghastly 1963 gear!! It was truly embarrassing, and very unprofessional.
However, I suppose it's the music that counts. |

Limehouse Lizzy capture the Thin Lizzy stage act very well and perform to a very high standard.
Live Wire are also quite a decent AC/DC tribute. |

ReGenesis were very good at Leeds City Varieties.
Roger Patterson, the Peter Gabriel counterpart, has also done vocals on Nick Magnus's 'Children Of Another God' album - great stuff! _________________ We are loonies and we are proud!
