Actually, it wasn't just British. Sammy Davis Jr. had the US hit single with 'Candyman' though it was written by the British duo of Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse. Kate Nash could be a latterday Veruca Salt (as in the character, not the band)!

Maroon 5's version of Pure Imagination isn't a patch on the Family Guy spoof 'Pure Inebriation' - and kudos to the makers of that series for calling their equivalent of the Oompa-Loompas the Chumbawambas even though Pawtucket Phil doesn't find them in a commune in Leeds!

I want to see the production of 'Matilda' that Tim Minchin's done the music for! He seems to me to be a junior Antipodean equivalent of Bill Bailey.

Marilyn Manson's version of the rowing song from Charlie & The Chocolate Factory is sinister in a different way to Gene Wilder's in the 1971 movie.

Jarvis Cocker's bluegrass song for Petey in Fantastic Mr. Fox was brilliant, and the makers of the movie introduced the dysfunctional elements of Fox's family. that weren't in the book.
