Well, with Eileen's vote, that is 4 for Remain and 8 for Leave, 33% and 66%.

Hooray, job done! No need for a referendum now. Sooner we leave the better.

I don't think it will either Toggy. I know what I'll vote but I'm not sure it's 100% the right way to go Question

Leaving would only make life more expensive - there are very few advantages.

The "Leave" campaign appears to be based almost entirely on racism.

It has nothing whatsoever to do with racism and everything to do with getting this great country out of the control of unelected EU dictators

The remain campaign is now being run in a state of panic with Cameron and others behaving like headless chickens

Just can't wait for 23rd June and even better 24th June when hopefully we'll see the back of Cameron and perhaps many of his posh cronies Smile

Could be interesting tonight at 9 when Cameron goes against Farage on ITV.

I'm going to a wedding on 24th Jun so I can guess what a lot of the talk will be!

Well there seems to be a lot of talk about immigration, and Boris invoking Hitler. Seems very close to "I'm not a racist, but..." to me.

You mean civil servants, just like in the UK? "enelected dictators" are appointed by MEPs - the ones we elected to make decisions about who to appoint.

Neither side is coming out of this with much glory, but the Leave campaign is blatantly lying.

I'll be as happy to see the back of Cameron as anyone, but I hope that's not the reason people vote out. And it's not as if Gove, IDS, and Boris are going to be any better - doing favours to their chums in big business, Murdoch, and Putin. Whoop-de-doo.

Also, I don't think that the desire to have more control over immigration = racism.

Explain how wanting to control immigration is xenophobic or racist (or bigoted if you want to throw that into the mix)
It seems sensible to me, nobody is saying don't let anybody in or kick them all out because that would be silly.

I'm voting leave and anybody can think what they wish of me, I'm past caring.

I am too Toggy, I actually don't think we have much to lose. We've given it a chance and IMHO it's not working for us so time for a change, as well as the immigration problem.

I should say I arrived at that decision after some wavering.

How can it be 'racist' to want an Australian style points system operating in Britain

The whole point of such a system is that we can recruit from abroad the skills which are in short supply at any given time irrespective of race and the priorities can be changed if circumstances change

Also why should white immigrants from Eastern Europe have priority over possibly better qualified people from Africa India or Latin America when it comes to living in Britain

Indeed one could make out a case that it is the remainers who have racist tendencies if they want to prioritise white European immigration over that from the rest of the world Smile

No, I don't think it helps either side to stick racist labels on people.
Everyone is entitled to their views without resorting to this. Smile

My comments were more directed at Ian rather than you Becky Embarassed

After all it was he who was suggesting that members of the Brexit campaign were racist and I was simply suggesting how in actual fact his whole argument could logically be turned on its head for the reasons I set out previously

I'm not especially in favour of dragging the subject of racism into this campaign but when members of the remain camp raise it against we Brexiteers then there has to be some kind of response as such comments should never be allowed to go unchallenged

Well I think you should have made that clear, ruddles, and directed your remarks to Ian rather than saying ..."it is the remainers who have racist tendencies".....which,as a remainer, I took personally.

Sorry, but Ruddles clearly did ABSOLUTELY NOT say 'it is the remainers who have racist tendencies' as you assert.

He said 'one could make out a case that it is the remainers who have racist tendencies if they want to prioritise white European immigration over that from the rest of the world'

It is a simple fact that some people ARE making this case, exactly as he states.

This is already sufficiently difficult and divisive an issue without people being quite so desperate to take offence at the other side's views, whilst ignoring the behaviour of their own. Ian's poorly judged, offensive and inflammatory statement that The "Leave" campaign appears to be based almost entirely on racism. drew not so much as a murmur from you.

For my own part, I was saddened when we discovered that almost half of Scots did not want to be part of Britain. Now I am saddened to find that half of British people would consider voting their country into non-existence. I am ashamed that so many people have given their lives to protect our democratic freedoms, only for this generation to so casually give them away like unwanted pocket-change.
I'm sorry - I know this is an emotive subject, but there was a time when people who actively tried to bring about the deconstruction of their native country (however slowly) were simply known as 'traitors', and i am left with a very disillusioned view towards many of my fellow citizens.

I was taking offence at being lumped in with remainers who (may) have racist views not at the other side's views.....plain and simple.....nothing desperate about it.

I think perhaps you need to develop a slightly thicker skin Becky when it comes to matters of this kind

I'm not offended by comments of the kind Ian made on this thread - I just think they are plain inaccurate stupid and unnecessary and need to be challenged - and of course I'm reminded of that well known phrase - If You Can't Stand the Heat Stay out of the Kitchen Smile

I have to say I've swayed a little as well Becky and I am not totally sure I'm right, but it's the immigration that finally nailed it for me.
