Scroll down to the section headed My Station In Life. It's in tonight's Yorkshire Evening Post as well for those who read that.

Interesting that he didn't mention Chris Evans; he must get home fbefore 5.

The article made sense till he said "That The Jazz has now replaced Classic Rock on my list of channel presets, I think, says a lot about the stage of life I have reached.

And I'm not sure I like it.

I have The Jazz on right now and the music is cool but no presenters yet?

The jazz will be adding presenters in April. No names yet but I hope Campbell Burnap and Sarah Ward will be amongst them.

What interests me about the article is that it mirrors so many of the comments that have been made on these various Radio 2 forums.

People may not like the fact that they do not always react positively to change but the fact is that they don't always and that's why a journalist like him (I am guessing in his early 40s) finds himself liking old hands like Terry and Sarah and preferring the jazz to Steve Wright and probably the other chap you mention.

Radio 2 is still my overall favourite amongst national networks but it is no longer my first choice of listening when I am not on DAB or internet radio.Apart from Sarah and SOTS of course.

My first choice has become BBC Radio Leeds which is fast paced, upbeat, newsy and informative and has excellent and intelligent presenters playing a wide variety of music from local bands to chart toppers, reggae to country music etc etc.

At the moment, Radio Leeds seems to be about the seventh most popular station in this region, with Radio 2 at the top and a few other national networks plus Galaxy from 2-6, but the way things are going, I am predicting changes at the top!

I used to listen to Cov &Warks or WM quite a lot when I was driving to work. I like Liz Kershaw on Cov morning and Paul Franks on WM drivetime, but never listen to either station in the evenings or weekends (except footie away games).

I've always been into classical and jazz and listened to Humph and Alan Dell since I was about 23 but was still also a Radio 1 person too up till about 1985 when I swung almost completely away from chart pop and 'young' shows, so I went 'through the change' when I was 32 and in fact that was about the time when I started driving to and from work regularly and listening a lot to car radio/tapes.

Journalism Cliche #5: Nothing improves, everything get worse.

Everyone thinks the world was perfect when they were young and that it has slowly being going downhill ever since. If you are stuck for a few paragraphs and have a tight deadline, it practically writes itself. Laughing

Your parents thought the same, your kids and their kids will most likely look back in the same way.

A prominent Grrek philosopher circa. 2000 B.C. wrote the same. Can't remember which one though.

There is a thread on Digital Spy about Radio Leeds where there has been some vigorous criticism of some of their output. Anyway Martin Kelner is a regular poster on that thread giving as good as he gets thrown at him. Personally I think Kelner was ahead of his time talking about w***ing and sanitary towels on the radio. He paved the way for Russell Brand to unleash his dinkle on national radio. Wink

Local radio in this neck of the woods (Nottingham) used to be good when it started, both BBC and commercial, and I used to listen to them in preference to Radio 1 or 2 (reception of R1 was very poor here on AM in the years before it got its own FM frequency). However, once Trent got taken over, dropped the specialist programmes in the evening, and recruited a Darby and Joan for the breakfast show it became an irritating noise punctuated by even more irritating adverts. Their best presenter, John Peters, went to the Gold stream, useless medium wave again, and is now on Saga - might soon be out of a job as smoothfm have bought them out.

Nowadays I will have Radio 2 on in the morning and be half aware of what Sarah and Terry are rabbiting on about. In the evening I might if I'm lucky catch some of Humph or DC then later on, if I'm not listening to a CD or two and the TV is free I'll have Iain Anderson on Radio Scotland, which is carried by digital cable - he mumbles into his beard rather but he plays a good varied selection - and if I'm still awake after that Planet Rock.

Weekend listening is difficult but I always try to be within earshot of SOTS, if nothing else.
