.......which confirms my point in an earlier post. That's your interpretation, Rachel. Fair enough if that's what rocks your boat but if others have different ideas then that's fine too. Your view is clear - BBC Radio 2 is all tickety-boo and dandy and therefore the only point in using a forum such has this is to talk about how sweet and wonderful things are. Fine. For you.

My view is different. In my view, the old BBC Message Board had the potential to reflect public opinion back to those making the radio. That's why many people (myself included, I'm proud to say) created a stink when Evans was recruited to the station and then again when he was predictably given the breakfast slot. Unfortunately, the medium was abused and ultimately ruined by trolls and idiots, but that's evolution.

So, by your reckoning, should we only post in such forums when we want to say how lovely things are? Not in my view. That said, your implication has been that when I post I'm always complaining, which is not true at all. There are little pockets of programming on R2 which I do like and do catch regularly - it's just that I think the station has lost its way due to appalling senior management. Again, my opinion.

However............. whether this forum is the place to discuss such things is questionable. It has so few active members, it is obviously not read by those in positions of influence at R2 (which should, in my opinion, be a central aim of the forum) so there's little point in posting. Again - my opinion.

I don't see the point of discussing what we've had for breakfast with the other 5 regular users or getting the latest news bulletins from Mark.

One final thing; I've been listening to Jeremy Vine today. He regularly picks up on listeners' posts on the Radio 2 Facebook Group but never, ever picks up on anything here. Now why is that, I wonder? For those who do support the idea of a "Radio 2 Preservation Society" or pressure group or whatever, it's failing dismally.

In that context, I don't really see any point in posting here any more so if there's a burning issue which is worth bringing to Jeremy's attention (or any other Radio 2 presenter and/or producer) I'll post there instead.

It's not a question of "throwing toys out of the pram" or anything like that, it's just a practical issue - ie: what's the point of posting here any more? There isn't one.

That's all. Thank you. Goodnight. Sleep tight. Don't let the bed bugs bite.

I knew you'd be back. Smile I love it when you quote people out of context and use the words but not the meaning, to your percieved advantage. It's quite cute really but predicable also.

Jezza uses the face bookpage because it is their R2 ( Facebook)page. For R2 to use this place would require them to 1. Look for it. 2 Find it. 3. Be bothered/interested enough to read it. and 4. Find anything worth reading out. The chances of anyone not dying of boredom before getting to the end of some lengthy posts is not that great. So yes, some, if not most of what you write is a complete waste of time. Smile

Have you really gone this time or is that your new sign off? Smile

I know John calls it that Helen, I was just trying to explain how I ended up here. The main thing is: is that sometimes a cause is worth dying for and at other times the people are more important than the cause they fight. The latter applies in this case. Smile

Rachel, carry on in your own rather arrogant way. It really doesn't matter.

Have a look at some of yours, Rachel. Really. Cool beans.... etc etc.

I guess we were lucky that Jezzasexiles managed to get a link in the way the TOGS board did from the Wogan show.

I also think they are pretty much told to use Facebook these days. There was something on Feedback about it not long ago but I forgot to listen to see what the official line was. Sad

You obviously read that in a different way to me (and to what I'm sure was intended).

I'm sure that's how and why most of us ended up here.

We had grown to know one another on the BBC's boards and wished to stay in touch, chat generally and continue to comment on the shows, music and presenters after those parts of the Radio 2 board were closed six years ago - before Facebook became what it is today. Many of us were also on the late-lamented jezzasexiles board, which took on the serious News and Current Affairs side of things.

I don't think many of us have ever been under the illusion that what we said, then or now, would/will be noticed or taken notice of - the same certainly applies to the traffic on the Radio 2 Facebook pages now.

So the cause, whatever it may be, is secondary. The people who are here, or were here six years ago - a varied bunch in terms of outlook and age - was this site's principal attraction.

The clue is in the title The Radio 2 PRESERVATION Society and there is very little preserved of the Radio 2 that I used to love listening to on every radio around our house. Now I just dip in and out, with favourite presenters that I will always listen to, some presenters I can put up with, others I can't stand and that's when I dip out! Each to their own, it wouldn't do for us all to be the same! Very Happy

But this forum isnít the Radio Preservation Society, Angela. Itís just a forum attached to a website of that name, it could just as easily have been attached to a web-site about Australian Tree-Frogs or Irish Dancing if John had been into those things at the time. This forum, as I recall, was very kindly set up by John in very short order to replace the Radio 2 Message Board when that was closed down, and a brilliant job he did. John invited anyone who wished it, to continue their discussions about R2 on here. The forum has a very similar format to the old R2 MB: other than the logo it has little, indeed, nothing to do with the preservation of R2. Being a member of the forum doesnít mean that one agrees with the aims of the R2 Preservation Society- many people joined here after being invited to do so, to do nothing more than continue their discussions which would have otherwise been on the old R2MB.
I know that most people who came under Johnís invitation, went again, but Iíve stuck around- off and on: for me, the purpose of posting here remains as was originally intended. To talk about R2. Very Happy None of this stuff is worth worrying or getting upset about though. Tis just chit chat and friendly banter. Smile

I'm not upset Rachel, I just posted how my listening preferences had changed. I was a member of this forum before the R2 Message boards closed. I did post on there too, but with a different identity!

An interesting article on "Claude". I was listening when they had to change studios in the week.

Jane Anderson makes a lot of sense. I also agree with her about Paul O'Grady. He's a fine radio presenter.

Missed whatever happened the other day did she spill something? I heard Jezza telling her about his misfortune with a glass of water so gathered something was amiss.

To be hoped Bob Shennan pays heed to that article but have my doubts. Can't agree more about Paul O'Grady. A complete surprise to me as well when he took over the old Ed Stewart slot shifting JW back to the middle of the afternoon.

The article is flawed, though. It makes out like this Winkleman's first week on Radio 2 but she's done Ken's slot several times already and has been presenting the Radio 2 Arts Show for years. By all means say she's bad, but saying "she's learning" kind-of gets her off the hook.

She has been presenting the R2 Arts Show for years (very, very badly imo) but I assumed that it was pre recorded. A big difference from live radio, I imagine.

The trouble is when she gets together with Lyn Bowles they tend to turn into two silly giggling females. Before anyone accuses me of being sexist, they were the words of Mrs Six

I always used to enjoy the Arts show but had to give up listening when she took over, only listening when there's a stand in eg Penny Smith. Crying or Very sad

I gave up when Matthew Wright took over - he was terrible!
