Manx Radio is celebrating 50 years of broadcasting. During the last week they had some link ups with Radio Caroline.

Carnaby Street is in two (unequal) parts, this should take you to one of them, hopefully. It has a short except of an interview with Johnnie Walker and there are also some really good tracks from 1964.

Very Happy

I have never heard the version of Cilla's You're My World that they are playing on this ..very different to the one that's usually played.

I am glad you enjoyed it Becky. There were so many tracks in that part of the show that I really liked too and the old adverts brought back many happy memories. It had a real 'piratey' sound to me.

I hadn't heard that version by Cilla before either.

Becky: Go Now by The Moody Blues is one of my all time favourites. Funny to think it's now half a century old! It was no.1 in January 1965.

I remember Like Dreamers Do. The first record I ever got was Tell Me When.

Last Saturday's show was particularly good with a mix from the decade, rather than covering only two years. Plus the inclusion of some original Radio Caroline jingles! Very Happy

Am listening to it now, for the first time. They've just played My Name Is Jack by Manfred Mann, not a great song but still nice to hear. And I enjoyed the Beans Means Heinz and Birds Eye Fish Fingers ads!

Living In The Past by Jethro Tull now. Perhaps I am!

These programmes have been repeated this week on Radio Caroline too. You can download all the programmes as MP3 files from the Manx radio website.

I always thought these were strange lyrics for such a happy sounding song!

There goes Fred with his hands on his head
'Cause he thinks he's heard the bomb

Talking of the lyrics of My Name Is Jack, I remember watching TOTP, and when the words 'I want to run as fast as my friend Paul' a picture of Paul Jones appeared in the background, Paul being Mike D'Abo's predecessor as the group's vocalist.

Funny the things one remembers.

This week's featured charts are from 1966 and 1968. Some Radio Caroline jingles are also included, happy days! Very Happy

Just tuned in and they were playing The Beatles' I'm Only Sleeping, from the Revolver album. Lennon at his best. And I think the first time I've ever heard it on radio.

It's 1966 and Denny Laine has just left the Moody Blues. Looks like we won't hear from them again. And The Troggs' I Can't Control Myself and Dave Dee etc's Bend It could be banned!

I am just listening to part two now. I can perhaps understand the thinking on The Troggs single being banned, but not the one by Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich! Laughing

I keep forgetting about this..thanks for the reminder,Angela.Smile

It was mentioned on the programme that Macca was writing the musical score for a new film called Wedlock starring Hayley Mills and Hywel Bennett....that film eventually turned out to be called The Family Way.

Great film!

Here's some of the music from it ...a whimsical piece!

Shouldn't the film be called 'Fred Wedlock' because these days Macca is certainly one of the oldest swingers in town Smile
