Announced this morning - Chris will be leaving the breakfast show, and the whole station, in December 2018!

Just chanced across that while on the way to Ken Bruce for a bit of Popmaster.

As you can imagine I'm overjoyed but I'm not sure I'll like whoever steps in.At least I won't have to endure his voice on endless trails though so that has got to be a plus! Very Happy

I wonder if Simon Mayo might take it after the crazy Drivetime experiment?

I think they'll go for celebrity or yoof, H. Whoever it is, I wouldn't be listening.

He's off to Virgin Radio to do the breakfast show.

Yes the show is unreconisable from what it was prior to him.

If Simon does get it, Gillian Reynolds will have been right!

What did Gillian say, then? I've got one complimentary article outstanding from the Times this week...

She said that we'd probably have to put up with Drivetime as it is now for a year or so then they would do something about it, or one of them would leave. She ended by saying she hoped it wouldn't be Simon that left.

The time scale would be almost spot on if one of them went. Actually Jo could go to Breakfast and give Drivetime back to Simon. It would give them the female that they obviously want.............

That did cross my brain cell earlier, H...Jo Whiley going to breakfast. It'd be a face saver for Lewis Carnage as well. It will definitely be a woman, so that'd be her, Zoe Ball, the Winkle and Cox, vying for it. Maybe Sara as she sits in, thus making R2 officially an 80's station.

I remember you posting that, now you mention it.

Bookies favourite is Zoe Ball, followed by Sara Cox. I reckon it'll be Cox, but who knows with this bunch in charge?

My first thought was Sara Cox too Ian.

Who knows who will take over (apart from the R2 powers-that-be) I have heard Sara deputise for him and she does an ok job imho. If she does take over full time, at least she will be able to turn the show into what she wants it to be, as would whoever gets the gig.

My vote is for someone who doesn't shout at you in a morning, and has something worthwhile to talk about, not just doing shoutouts and reading out email/tweets etc .

Please not another ex 1980/90s Radio 1 DJ, R2 has too many already Rolling Eyes

He bought it, didn't he? Then sold it off for a fantastic profit. Which is a big reason why he can afford to go back, for fun, I suppose. Lauren Laverne will gain a lot of listeners, I would imagine, when she takes over the 6 Music breakfast show.

As for your wish, Nod, I can't think of anyone!

Chris has intimated he likes a challenge, rather than staying static, so his next challenge must surely be how many listeners he can take with him to Virgin from Radio 2.

Judging by the mostly sad comments,on Twitter, that he was going (before it was announced he was going to Virgin) I think quite a few will follow him.

I liked Ken's reaction to the news at the change over...Smile

I saw pictures of Richard Bacon,Zoe Ball, Sara Cox and Simon Mayo, side by side, on the BBC website under a headline of "who will be next?" (or something like that)

Please let it be Simon Mayo from that lot.

Winkleman and O'Leary also get a mention Rolling Eyes

If Simon did get the job I would retune to the Radio 2 Breakfast show in a heartbeat.

Me too Becky!

It would also appear that Sarah Vine (no relation to Jeremy but actually Mrs Michael Gove!) said today that she'll be able to listen to Radio 2 again after Evans goes.

Yes, but she's a horrible woman. I'm not sure I want to be part of a club that she's in.

I don’t suppose anyone actually bets on this really. But if anyone has bet on me, that’s money thrown away. Hope that helps.

If anyone does bet on it, then I think that they must have more money than sense. A favourite must be Sara Cox as she is the most frequent stand-in. But then let's look back to when Johnnie Walker stood down from Drivetime. Stuart Maconie was the regular stand-in when Johnnie was away. Did he get the gig full time when Johnnie left?

I read the same elsewhere LEE. I'm not sure who would be worse of the 2 so called 'forerunners'.

For me I don't know that I would ever listen again to Breakfast as the show is no longer like what most of us here would wish for (I think I'm right with my assumption?) so I wonder does it matter who they get to present it?

Sorry to sound so disilusioned, but it's the way I feel about the world right now...........

Ah well. Wasn't a surprise, was it? Had to be between those two. Doesn't bother me in the slightest, as I don't have R2 on that early. I've recently taken to You Tubing local history while I have my tea and toast, or listen again . Of course, if anyone knows of a decent breakfast show, that doesn't assault the ears or the brain cell, then I'm happy to experiment.

I have discovered a station that I like a fair bit and that's Cyber Rock. Hardly any talking or ads and a very varied playlist. DAB for these parts and online nationwide.

As would most people, I think. I'm looking forward to see what Lauren Laverne comes up with, when she takes on the 6Music breakfast show.

Hmmmmm. Not sure, but it probably won't be for me as it's as much about what the show has become since the Shouty One remodelled it as it is about who presents it.

May I take this opportunity to introduce you to the best station that you could ever want to listen to, at this particular time?

Cyber Gold. Trust me. It lives up to it's name. Hardly any talk and wonderful music. I guarantee that within 20-30 minutes, you will agree.
