It's been confirmed today that Rylan Clark-Neal will be replacing Zoe Ball on Saturday afternoons when she moves to Breakfast.
Once again, I feel the station is less and less for me. |

I just knew that they were earmarking him for a regular spot. I can't take more of him than the time it takes my thumb to press the remote.
I'm just thankful I'm a sports nut, so it's Five Live on a Saturday, or family stuff.
I'm also conscious that I'm turning into Stadler or Waldorf... _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |

Ian I agree with you, there is very little left that I enjoy now.

As I said in the RAJARs thread the listening figures for Saturday have actually gone up this year so I just can't see the logic for this move at all. With Johnnie Walker's Rock Show following Liza Tarbuck that's a pretty solid schedule of older-skewing fairly nostalgic listening from Pick of the Pops at 1pm to Craig Charles at 10pm. Putting 3 hours of Rylan in the middle sticks out like a sore thumb. |

As someone who is very proud to say that I have never watched a single episode of "Britain's Got Strictly No Celebrity X-Factor" I have absolutely no idea who he is. I have a horrible idea he was sitting in for someone recently and I nearly slipped a disc in my rush to get to the off switch. It's good to see that Radio 2 has now left the bottom of the barrel and is busy underneath the barrel.
Is there some Holy Writ that says we can't have proper radio broadcasters instead of these unqualified celebs.

Yes I miss those 2 who were great in that Saturday afternoon slot.

Yes, he sat in for Zoe over the summer and was awful.
I have to say I'm not much of a fan but he's not too bad in small doses on certain things. 3 hours is too much though - he doesn't know much about music, he doesn't really have much to say, and at 26 (allegedly) feels too young for Radio 2.

Well, this is it, isn't it? We lose Alex Lester, Janice Long, Bob Harris etc and get this in return. Hardly seems a fair swap. |

I feel very nostalgic for those days, when I had Radio 2 on just about all day and Saturday afternoons were unmissable: Pick Of The Pops, Richard Allinson, Stuart Maconie's Critical List. Some of the comedy shows were good too, such as News Huddlines, surely now is a good time to have a similar show on again. It's Been A Bad Week was another one I enjoyed. Some good documentaries too before I burnt the midnight oil with Bob Harris' weekend show.
Those were the days! _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

There isn't much left for me either, just Sounds of the 70s and sometimes the first year on Pick of the Pops. Sad times! _________________ Pirate Johnnie Walker played my request on 11 April 2009 |

I hang on to Ken Bruce but the music is getting worse all the time. That's it for the daytime schedule since it's now full of hyperactive old men, Evans, Vine and Wright, getting more and more over excited.
Fortunately I can listen again at my desk so I keep up with SOTS, SOTS, POTP but that's about it. A far cry from the glory days when it was wall to wall R2 _________________ I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. |

Same here, only Ken weekdays. I try with SOT60s, great music but don't like it with Blackburn.
Thank goodness for 6music, I may not like all the music but at least it makes music the priority. |

Rylan starts this weekend in a blaze of hype. I thought Angela Scanlan was a decent stand-in for Zoe so I don't know why they've brought in someone with no radio experience instead. |

Just this last week he was on Would I Lie To You ....then looking through the schedule on Radio 4 Extra I see he has a series of programmes* on there and this morning it was announced he is to co-host It Takes Two (Strictly spin off) with Zoe Ball. He definitely knows where the bodies are buried...there is no question about that. I fully expect to see him reading the news in the not too distant future, just before he takes over as D.G.
* His husband Daniel Clark-Neal is executive producer on that. |

It is curious that when lots of white males are losing presenting slots he's picking them up despite no discernable talent. His Saturday show on Radio 2 is just awful. He seems a nice chap but has no idea about music or how to speak to other people, and his stories are simple and dull. It would be bad enough, but sandwiched between Gambo and Liza Tarbuck he comes off even worse. |

It is curious Ian and I don't think it bodes well for the future. Gillian Reynolds wrote a few weeks ago that radio as we know it is finished, she didn't like the thought herself mind you.
I caught a little bit of one of his first shows and now make a point of switching off if I happen to be listening at that time.
I agree with Becky's thought that he will be everywhere before long, sadly.

I've just noticed that he is hosting the rebooted Supermarket Sweep. I suppose it's too much to hope for that that is the end of his R2 career? _________________ I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. |

He also has a new programme starting on primetime BBC TV.
You Are What You Wear (w/t, 4x60') is set in a department store of dreams where every size and shape is catered for and which stocks everything from vintage to high street steals and designer items.
Each episode will follow four customers as they come to the store in the hope of solving a fashion dilemma or undergoing a complete transformation. The customers are each invited into a fitting room with a giant mirror, where they are asked to look at their reflection and articulate what they see. In this emotional moment, they open up to Rylan about their insecurities and how they really feel about themselves.
This series has a unique mix of humour, emotion and consumer take out and Rylan is such a joy at the heart of proceedings.”

Heheh...it does sound a bit John Inman, H!
I've caught bits of Celebrity Gogglebox over the last couple of weeks and Rylan's mother is funnier than he is. Mind you, that's not difficult. She's good, though. _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |

That's why she's on his Radio 2 show every week. But they talk so much you may as well listen to Radio 4. There was a 20-minute period the other week where he only played one song, the rest was awkward chat with callers. |

Yes, I've heard her on the promo clips for his show, but haven't been either brave or foolhardy enough to tune into it, save for hearing a part of a quiz, while driving a few weeks back, which wasn't as painful as I'd expected. _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |

I don't want parents of celebrities waffling on, on a music radio programme - I want a person who plays music and knows what they're talking about,re the music . Of course have people on who play/have knowledge of music as guests but not your family!! Not too much to ask is it? ....it would seem so.
Same goes for Robbie Savage on his football programme on 5 Live (during the football season) - his mum 'stars' on that.
The BBC really is going down the drain. |

Talk this last couple of days that it might literally be going down the drain.
Not BBC but I heard the other day that Rylan is doing...
Alternative Election Night:
On Thursday 12 December, the nation will take to polling stations up and down the country to vote in the general election.
All the major broadcasters will be offering live and up to date coverage of the results, including Channel 4, which has set itself apart from the rest with its Alternative Election Night.
The show will kick off at 9.55pm and will feature Channel 4 news anchor Krishnan Guru-Murthy hosting a live eight hour special alongside comedian Katherine Ryan and TV presenter Rylan Clark-Neal.

I've given his Saturday show a few goes but it's unbearable. Worst thing is he keeps banging on about RAJARs so I guess it's doing OK and will be around for a while. |
