German mail service managers have cut the number of dog attacks on postman and women by more than half since offering courses on canine psychology to staff.
When the courses were first introduced in 2003, about 2,000 postal workers a year were bitten by dogs. Last year, there were only 610 cases of dog bites, which resulted in 6,210 days of sick leave-compared with 20,000 days in 2003. The dog psychology courses advises postal staff about carrying dog snacks, not looking dogs in the eye, and not running away.
More than 80,000 postal workers and apprentices have so far qualified for their diplomas on canine psycholgy. Postwoman Petra Nissen said: "Every time I am in a new area,I try to get to know the people who live there. That way, I also meet the dogs, and they get used to me. I always give them a treat".
I wonder if this will catch on in the UK. |

Get them to read "Going postal" by Terry Pratchett he comes up with a novel slant on the subject. _________________ Geddon
